Landrieu defends $2.5m Capitol Hill mansion, just '36 feet wide'

Embattled Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu, still facing heat for only having a home in Washington, D.C., defended her posh $2.5 million Capitol Hill mansion over the weekend, dubbing it as just a townhouse that is a mere 36-feet wide.

Stumping in Bogalusa, La., Saturday, she brought a friend to the stage to help her describe the East Capitol Street home that features 5,200 square feet and five bedrooms.

After her friend downplayed any notion that the home is a mansion, Landrieu said that “it’s a townhome,” and added that “it is 36 feet wide.” And, "I'm next to a cleaners."

She and her husband own land in Louisiana, but she stays with her parents when visiting her home state, raising criticism about her residency. The Washington Post first reported on her Capitol Hill home and lack of her own residence in Louisiana.

The pro-Republican group America Rising posted the video of her comments and noted, “Landrieu got heated discussing her opponent Bill Cassidy’s Louisiana home and then went on an extended riff about how her Washington, D.C., mansion is not all that nice, hoping Louisianans don’t actually ask for more details.”
