Common Sense in Congress: "You Can't Arm Islamists to Fight Islamists" [Video]

It appears there may finally be some common sense in Congress. Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) can not support arming an Islamist group to fight another Islamist group in the fight with ISIS. Why? You can’t fight Islamists by arming Islamists. Hunter explained:

“We need to burn the Islamic State to the ground and you don’t do that by training Islamic Syrians. You don’t crush the Islamic State by training Islamists to fight other Islamists.” (ABC News)

Congressman Duncan Hunter is a rare individual. He is a Republican Congressman from California. He is also a decorated veteran who served his country in Iraq (two tours) and Afghanistan (one tour).

He states quite frankly that he cannot support a bill that arms Islamists to fight Islamists because too many things can go wrong.

Here is what Congressman Hunter had to say in this video that he sent out to the press and the American People:

“Here’s why I voted against arming the Syrian opposition. Crush ISIL, yes… but arming Syrian fighters presents too many problems/complications. I have outlined other steps to Secretary Hagel–which were provided weeks ago. Crickets (on response).” (Congressman Duncan Hunter)

He has a very valid point. If we look at the major wars of Iraq and Afghanistan, you can see that arming Islamist governments to combat Islamist governments has been very costly, including the precious resource of the American blood of our military.

We need to crush ISIS, but you don’t do that by arming the very people who intend to turn those weapons on their own government (Assad) or the United States.

We have no means to track those weapons to insure that they don not fall into the hands of the radical terrorist group ISIS. We have no means to ensure that any training provided would not be used on American soldiers or to take American lives. We cannot ensure those weapons, communications, and training are not used against our allies in Europe or find their way into Palestinian or Hamas hands.

No matter how hard the PC Police try, ISIS, who’s first two letters stand for Islamic State, is Islamic. They follow the Qur’an and are mimicking Mohamed like they are supposed to do. It would be akin to arming Skin Heads to fight Neo-Nazis. It doesn’t work. It only creates a more unstable environment if we have to go in.

These bad military decisions, like trying to send combat troops to fight Ebola, are a direct result of a Community Organizer who has no business issuing orders to the military.

Let’s hope he listens to the people who have been there and quits pushing the utter destruction of our forces for an insane agenda.

Common sense, yes.  But since when has anyone in DC been guided by common sense?

Also, Hunter is factually wrong.  We CAN arm Islamists to fight Islamists.  We've been doing precisely that since the Jimmy Carter administration.  What he means to say is that arming Islamists to fight Islamists hasn't worked, and will not work in Syria.

But don't expect anyone to listen.  ISIS is the very creation of the "smartest guys in the room" who figured they'd turn the lemon known as Al Qaeda into lemonade by sicking the organization against Assad.  ISIS is the result, and it is a very bitter concoction indeed.

Makes sense to those of us paying attention.

Yup.

Just like we armed, equipped and "trained" all those Iraqi Defense Forces.

That sure worked out great, didn't it ???
