In and around St. Louis and its troubled suburb of Ferguson, intense street demonstrations over the last several days have reportedly resulted in the arrests of more than 50 people who clashed with police. Some of those who took to the streets were said to be outside agitators looking to perpetuate the protests that first erupted after the police shooting of Michael Brown on August 9th.
Via frontpagemag.com:
“Thousands of protesters converged on Ferguson over the weekend, according to reports. The out-of-state visitors included anti-war radicals left over from the Sixties, seminarians, college students, and fast food workers imported from Chicago, Nashville, and elsewhere.
“Community organizers are also hard at work attempting to destabilize Ferguson and the surrounding region.”
Even as unrest over the Ferguson killing was simmering, another police shooting stirred the racially charged pot into a fresh fury — this incident in St. Louis where an off-duty police officer reportedly returned fire and killed a young black man who was allegedly attempting to kill him.
Again, from frontpagemag.com:
“Authorities say that VonDerrit Myers Jr. was shot dead in St. Louis City, reportedly after shooting at an officer three times during a chase.
“Myers was wearing a monitoring ankle bracelet as a condition of bail from a gun case months ago. After Myers’s death, activists reportedly broke windows, burned a U.S. flag, and attacked journalists.”
Myers’ family claims that he was unarmed, and that he only had a sandwich in his hands. But social media postings recently surfaced that cast substantial doubt on the family’s contention that an unarmed Myers was gunned down for no good reason, the victim of an unjustified police shooting.
The pictures that have now been made public suggest that VonDerrit Myers Jr. was not the innocent boy that his family says he was…a story that Ferguson agitators were all too willing to believe and use as justification for their destructive rage.
In this photo, Myers can reportedly be seen in the lower right, clearly waving a gun:
According to a post on bearingarms.com, investigators believe Myers used a gun seen in a different social media picture to shoot at the St. Louis cop:
“Myers was out on bail and faced a court date on another weapons charge when he was shot and killed after opening fire on the officer.
“Incredibly, while photos of Myers holding stolen weapons in various poses have been posted to social media since his shooting, his apologists refuse to believe the possibility that the (alleged) criminal was anything other than a victim of ‘police murder.'”
In the meantime, a grand jury is considering charges in the Ferguson case against police officer Darren Wilson, who has been placed on administrative leave. Protesters want Wilson arrested immediately and have threatened violence if the grand jury does not indict him.
