Religious Play Banned at School in Favor of Plays with Rape and Incest

Have you ever heard anyone say that talking about religion is a violation of the First Amendment? Perhaps a violation of the infamous non-existent separation of church of state, but never the First Amendment, that is until now.

Cape Fear Community College student Justin Grave wrote a play for his drama club. Members of the club unanimously supported the play, but when the drama club advisor reviewed it, he told Grave that the play could not be performed because it violated the First Amendment. The advisor suggested that he tone down the play by removing all of the religious material, otherwise it might offend someone.

How many times are liberal minded bigots worried about other liberals being offended while at the same time not giving one thought to the fact that their actions offend many conservatives and Christians? The far left has even gone to the extreme of having anything that might offend a liberal be classified as hate speech, yet they adamantly protect their First Amendment right to criticize and blaspheme God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Bible.

Travis Barham, an attorney working with Alliance Defending Freedom says that the drama club advisor is completely wrong in his understanding of the First Amendment. In a statement given to OneNewsNow, Barham said:

“The First Amendment says - and the Supreme Court says this over and over again - the government is required to treat religious speech the same way it would treat other speech.”

“It’s even more absurd when the professor says the production can’t go forward because some people might be offended. Well, as the Supreme Court has said numerous times, over and over again, the whole point of the First Amendment is to protect speech that people might find offensive.”

The same advisor that told Graves he could not produce his play without taking all of the religious stuff out of it did allow others to produce plays that included themes of rape and incest. That’s when Christians should have barnstormed the college in protest that the other plays were VERY offensive to them. Yet we all know that it’s perfectly legal and acceptable to offend Christians, but not liberals. And I once thought that Christian persecution in America would never happen. Boy was I wrong!

Its okay for colleges to have cop killers give at keynote speakers for commencement, for radical islamists  to make speeches on campuses, to disallow anti-islamist to speak, and ban Christian plays.  Is there a pattern here, an extremely liberal, anti-Constitutional bias?

You are right ranger. America is in peril.

Sometimes, reading headlines here at TBR feels like reading Alice in Wonderland.
