President Obama delivered a strong message to the Islamic State terrorists in Iraq and Syria, calling their organization a “network of death.”
“Those who have joined ISIL should leave the battlefield while they can,” he said, promoting the growing coalition led by the United States to destroy them.
During his speech, Obama highlighted the terrorist group’s recent actions including raping women, killing children, and beheading innocent citizens on camera.
“No God condones this terror. No grievance justifies these actions,” he said. There can be no reasoning – no negotiation – with this brand of evil. The only language understood by killers like this is the language of force.”
Obama reminded the world that it was important to address sectarian conflicts throughout the world, calling for all religions to “accommodate devout faith with a modern, multicultural world.”
“No children are born hating and no children anywhere should be educated to hate other people,” he said.
He reminded the audience that all religions suffered from attacks from extremists, including attacks from within.
“There is nothing new about wars within religions, he said, reminding delegates that even Christianity “endured centuries of vicious sectarian conflict.”
Obama also reminded members that America “is not and never will be at war with Islam.”
“When it comes to America and Islam, there is no us and them – there is only us, because millions of Muslim Americans are part of the fabric of our country,” he said.
