Didn't the gubmint already decide veterans were likely to be extremist right-wing domestic terrorists? How long before the media starts mentioning the tea party and these two WH intruders in the same breath?

Petition Urges Obama To Let Border-Jumper Stay In The White House

Posted By Neil Munro On 6:07 PM 09/20/2014 In | No Comments

The man who jumped the White House railing Sept. 19 deserves the right to live in President Barack Obama’s home, just as the president is allowing hundreds of thousands of border-jumping Central Americans to live in Americans’ homeland, says a new tongue-in-cheek petition posted at the White House website.

“We urge President Obama to immediately and publicly recognize that Mr. Omar J. Gonzalez, an oppressed migrant, was merely looking for a better life when he entered the White House after going over the classist, divisive and needless fence,” says the petition, which was authored by D.A. King, founder of the Georgia-based Dustin Inman Society, which advocates for actual enforcement of immigration law.

“In the interest of White House diversity and what will surely result in adding to the rich tapestry of love and community, we further demand that the President reform the mean-spirited laws regulating access to the People’s House,” says King’s’ petition, which mimics the pro-amnesty language used by business and ethnic lobbies.

“For justice and peace, upon his next return from the back-nine, Mr. Obama must award permanent lawful WH residency to Mr. Gonzalez and his family, along with a permit to work there. Because.” concludes the petition, which can be electronically signed at the White House website.

Once the petition gets 150 electronic signatures, the petition will be posted on the public side of Obama’s website.

White House officials say they will post a public response to any petition that gets 100,000 signatures.

King’s sardonic petition was posted Saturday, one day after Gonzalez jumped Obama’s household fence and dashed inside one of the doors into the president’s house. The president’s bodyguard detained the man, and exiled him to a federal law enforcement facility outside the White House border.

That’s a very different reaction than Obama approved for the 200,000 Central Migrants who have crossed the nation’s border since 2009.

Obama allowed nearly all of the unskilled and poor migrants — including roughly 135,000 adults, youths and children who have arrived since October 2013 — to apply via the courts for Green Cards that would allow them to stay in Americans’ homeland. They’re allowed to apply regardless of education, productivity or possible criminal records.

Obama’s deputies have only repatriated about 300 of the 200,000 migrants.

Roughly 70 percent of the migrants are children and youths who claim to be aged 17 or below. Many of those are being sent to U.S. schools, where they’re expected to absorb education resources originally approved for Americans’ children, including the children of low-income African-Americans, Latino-Americans and white Americans.

Other observers noted the contrast between the administration’s treatment of people who cross Obama’s border and the nation’s border.

“To be fair, the guy who made it over the fence at the White House should be able to live there now….with his family,” said a tweet from Richard Grenell, a liberal Republican.

Obama has the authority to repatriate the young migrants. Instead, he choose to let them apply for Green Cards via a 2008 law, which was written to protest young people who were forced by criminals to serve as prostitutes.

The president’s acceptance of the migrants is part of a larger effort to relax enforcement of immigration laws. In 2013, Obama’s deputies deported less than 0.2 percent of the roughly 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States for violating immigration laws.

Partly because of immigration, fewer natural-born Americans have jobs in 2014 than had jobs in 2000, despite a population growth of 16 million.

Because of Obama’s policy for the nation’s border, more Central American migrants are expected to arrive in September and October.

The president’s support for the huge wave of Central American migrants and for greater immigration overall is so unpopular — including among Latinos — that even five Democrats and many business-backed Republicans voted Sept. 18 to limit his ability to provide unilateral amnesties to illegal immigrants. Those polls reflect long-standing public opposition to greater immigration.

King’s petition is intended to highlight Obama’s double-standard.

“We recognize that Omar has endured the oppression of the unfair White House entry system and that that building belongs to the entire world,” said a press release announcing King’s petition.

“We are the world,” the petition says, sarcastically.

A federal prosecutor said Monday that the intruder who evaded Secret Service and sprinted into the White House on Friday had 800 rounds of ammunition and various weapons, including a machete, in his vehicle.

Prosecutor David Mudd revealed the details about the suspect Monday during an initial court appearance. At the hearing, suspect Omar J. Gonzalez, a 42-year-old Army veteran, was deemed a flight risk and ordered to be detained until his next hearing -- set for Oct. 1.

At the court appearance, Mudd said Gonzalez had the rounds of ammunition in his car, in addition to two hatchets and a machete.

Gonzalez was quiet in the courtroom, expressing little emotion during the proceedings.

Prosecutors: WH fence jumper had 800 rounds of ammo in car

By Peter Sullivan

The man who jumped the White House fence and made it in the front door before being stopped had 800 rounds of ammunition in his car, federal prosecutors said on Monday.

The man, Omar Gonzalez, 42, also had two hatchets and a machete in his car, parked blocks away, prosecutors said in a filing in federal court, The Washington Post reported.

In July, Gonzalez, originally from Texas, was arrested for carrying a sawed-off shotgun and a map with the White House circled on it, according to an affidavit.

The Post also reported that the Secret Service spoke with Gonzalez in August when they saw him with a hatchet in his pants near the White House, searched his car, but found nothing suspicious and released him.

According to an affidavit, Gonzalez told the Secret Service after being caught jumping the fence on Friday that the "atmosphere was collapsing" and he needed to tell the president, the Post reported.

"The Secret Service does a great job," President Obama said at an event at the White House on Monday, according to a pool report. "I'm grateful for all the sacrifices they make on my behalf and on my family's behalf."

The Secret Service has come under scrutiny for not stopping the intruder before he reached the White House. It is conducting a review of its procedures.

The agency has a policy of not shooting fence jumpers if they do not appear to be armed.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Monday that Obama was "obviously concerned" but added that he had "full confidence" in the Secret Service.

We saw a story on the TV news last night where they questioned why the WH security people didn't release the dogs, and Mr. M and I both looked at each other and said about the same thing: maybe (subconciously, anyway) they didn't really want to stop the guy.  :pondering:

I still maintain that this was a setup...to use as an excuse for removal of the "decorative wrought iron" fence, so that it can be replaced by something more opaque.  And higher.

Prosecutor: White House intruder had 800 rounds of ammo in car, prior run-ins with law

Published September 22, 2014

 | FoxNews.com

The intruder who evaded Secret Service and bolted into the White House on Friday was found with 800 rounds of ammunition in his car and had two prior run-ins with the law this year, officials said.

The details emerged during an initial court appearance for the suspect, 42-year-old Omar J. Gonzalez.

Federal prosecutor David Mudd said Gonzalez had hundreds of rounds of ammunition in his car, in addition to two hatchets and a machete, at the time of Friday's incident. He called the intruder a danger to the president.

Gonzalez, who was quiet in the courtroom, was deemed a flight risk and ordered detained until his next hearing, set for Oct. 1.

Mudd detailed two other recent incidents involving the suspect. He said Gonzalez, who is homeless, was arrested in July for evading police and was found at the time to be in possession of a sawed-off shotgun, as well as a map of the D.C. area with the White House and Masonic Temple circled.

Separately, Wythe County Deputy Commonwealth Attorney David Saliba said Gonzalez also had two powerful rifles, four handguns and other guns and ammunition in his Ford Bronco when troopers stopped him in southwestern Virginia on July 19. Saliba said Gonzalez initially tried to flee troopers, weaving and driving off the road into a highway median.  Gonzalez was arrested at the scene after a trooper found the illegal shotgun in his car. The ammunition and weapons, including a tomahawk, were seized.

Mudd detailed an Aug. 25 incident as well in which he said Gonzalez was stopped along the south fence of the White House with a hatchet. He was not arrested at the time. According to Mudd, officials searched his car but found no other weapons at the time.

The security breach this past Friday has prompted a comprehensive security review, as officials examine what happened and whether additional security changes are needed.

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said in a statement he will "carefully evaluate" the findings but encouraged the public not to "rush to judgment" until all facts are in.

Aside from the weapons apparently found in his car after the Friday breach, officials say the suspect was also carrying a small knife when he scaled the White House fence, sprinted across the lawn and entered the building before being arrested.

In an affidavit filed with the criminal complaint, Officer Daniel Hochman said Gonzalez was caught carrying a Spyderco folding knife, with a serrated, three-and-a-half-inch blade.

According to the statement, the suspect told Secret Service "he was concerned that the atmosphere was collapsing and needed to get the information to the president of the United States so that he could get the word out to the people."

The breach led to a rare evacuation of much of the White House. President Obama and his family were headed to Camp David when the breach occurred Friday evening.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama is "obviously concerned" about the incident.

The Secret Service increased its security on Monday around the perimeter of the White House, the presidential residence and one of the government's enduring symbols, while investigating how officers had allowed the incident to happen.

Earnest said the Secret Service investigation will include a review of protective efforts both inside the White House grounds and outside the fence line along Pennsylvania Avenue, including staffing and threat assessment policies and procedures.

Gonzalez, an Army veteran from Copperas Cove, Texas, faces charges of entering a restricted building or grounds while carrying a deadly or dangerous weapon. The Army says Gonzalez served from 1997 until his discharge in 2003, and again from 2005 to December 2012, when he retired due to disability.

The Secret Service didn't open fire on Gonzalez or send attack dogs after him.

Officers who spotted Gonzalez scale the fence quickly assessed that he didn't have any weapons in his hands and wasn't wearing clothing that could conceal substantial quantities of explosives, a primary reason agents did not fire their weapons, according to a U.S. official briefed on the investigation.

The Secret Service has long tried to balance public access to the "People's House" and security of the presidential residence.

The two-block stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House's north gates has been closed to vehicle traffic since May 1995, when President Bill Clinton ordered the immediate closure of the road in an effort to prevent a potential car- or truck-bomb attack.

Last September a man was arrested and accused of throwing firecrackers over the fence on the north lawn, near the area where Gonzalez is accused of climbing over the barrier. The Secret Service at the time said the man with firecrackers did not pose a threat. A few weeks later a Connecticut woman set off a police chase through downtown Washington after ramming a security checkpoint near the White House. Miriam Carey, 34, was shot and killed by police near the Capitol.

In May, a man was arrested after he followed a motorcade carrying Obama's daughters through the gates into the secure area near the White House. He had a pass for the Treasury Department, which is next door to the White House and also inside the pedestrian-only security zone. A charge of unlawful entry was later dismissed.

Another man apprehended on Sept. 11 after he jumped the White House fence was charged last week in local court for unlawful entry, according to the Secret Service. He was released on Sept. 16, with his next appearance scheduled for October.

Recent incidents have only intensified the scrutiny of the Secret Service, which is struggling to rehabilitate its image following a series of allegations of misconduct by agents in recent years, including agents on Obama's protective detail.

Capitol Hill lawmakers are carefully scrutinizing the incident. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has scheduled a hearing on the incident for Sept. 30.

Secret Service Director Julia Pierson also was meeting Monday with Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas. And she spoke with Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., chairman of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee.

"Friday's security breach at the White House was alarming and unprecedented. I am confident Director Pierson is taking swift action to investigate the incident and increase security procedures to prevent this from occurring in the future," McCaul said in a statement.

Sources familiar with the White House procedures are questioning why there isn't an automatic locking system for such an incident. Further, the security breach is prompting some lawmakers to revisit talks about potentially pushing back the security perimeter on Capitol Hill.

Congressional leaders, though, are resistant to adding that kind of security layer.

"We could do that," said one source, when asked about extending the perimeter outside the Capitol. "But then you create a perception of a more restrictive, less accessible Capitol."

Fox News' Kara Rowland and Chad Pergram and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Separate from this, other articles portray the Secret Service, along with other elements of DHS, as being in turmoil.

Low morale, high turnover, etc. Could it be over 5 years of mismanagement by Obama and his team of academic and political wizards, have taken their toll in job performances and results?

Abe Lincoln, Jack Kennedy, Jerry Ford and Ron Reagan hoped for better security, but two of four didn't get good enough security.

Most certainly, YES.

The SS has a history of being a very fine organization filled with dedicated people devoted to protecting our leaders.

I believe that has changed under Obama.  I believe that his idiot administration, filled with lazy, careless, thoughtless, nasty academics has soured them on their jobs.

Secret Service interviewed accused intruder twice
Sep. 23, 2014 - 08:29PM   |

White House intruder identified as Army veteran

WASHINGTON — Secret Service agents in Virginia and Washington earlier this summer twice interviewed an Army veteran accused of climbing over a White House fence during the weekend and running into the executive mansion in the two months before the embarrassing security breach, a federal law enforcement said Tuesday.

In both cases, the official said, the Secret Service, which protects the president and his family, concluded there was no evidence that Omar J. Gonzalez was a security threat.

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss details of an ongoing investigation, said agents interviewed Gonzalez after he was arrested during a traffic stop in southwestern Virginia in July. State troopers there said Gonzalez had an illegal sawed off shotgun and a map of Washington tucked inside a Bible with a circle around the White House, other monuments and campgrounds. The troopers seized a stash of other weapons and ammunition found during a search of Gonzalez’s car after his arrest.

Agents in Washington spoke to him again in late August after Gonzalez was found near a White House fence with a small hatchet in his waistband.

The official said the agents in Washington searched his car and found camping equipment, two other hatches and empty gun cases but no guns or ammunition.

The official said the Washington agents were aware of the earlier interview when they spoke to Gonzalez in August.

The official said the Secret Service did not consider Gonzalez a threat until he scaled the White House fence Friday evening.

Secret Service Director Julia Pierson has ordered an investigation of what happened when Gonzalez breached the fence line and was able to run through an unlocked door into the White House.

She is expected to testify about the security breach next week before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
