Obama's 'Meet the Press' interview to stir up Sunday shows

By Kevin Cirilli

ISIS and Obama's foreign policy will likely dominate the headlines coming out of the Sunday shows.

President Obama will look to go on political offense during an exclusive interview with NBC's "Meet The Press" on Sunday, after weeks of criticism for his handling of threats overseas — including the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Obama will likely face questions about whether he will expand airstrikes from Iraq and into Syria, and his strategy for doing so.

Republicans will be out in full force criticizing his response, as well as making the case for their own 2016 presidential ambitions to be Obama's successor.

On Fox, however, Obama will face a familiar political foe,  former 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney. While Romney has insisted he's not running for president in 2016, he will undoubtedly face questions about his political future.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) will join former Secretary of State Henry Kissenger to promote his new book, on CBS.

But also expect a few headlines about Congress's agenda once lawmakers return from August recess on Monday.

Here's the line-up:

NBC's "Meet The Press": NBC's Chuck Todd interviews President Obama during Todd's first week as the new host of the Sunday show staple.

CBS's "Face The Nation": Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.) and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger will talk foreign policy.

CNN's "State of the Union": Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) will discuss the threats of ISIS overseas. Meanwhile, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer will weigh in on issues facing three of the nation's biggest cities.

Fox's "Fox News Sunday": Republican 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney will provide insight on the 2014 midterm elections and the state of his party. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) and Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) will discuss ISIS and other global hotspots.

ABC's "This Week": Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who is rumored to be mulling a 2016 run for the White House, will look to criticize Obama's response to ISIS. He'll be joined by House Intelligence Committee member Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) and House Armed Services Committee ranking member Adam Smith (D-Wash.).
