PRESIDENT Francois Hollande dismayed reformers yesterday by putting an anti-globalisation campaigner in charge of the French economy in a new government that also includes Segolene Royal, his former partner, political rival and mother of his children.
Mr Hollande promoted Arnaud Montebourg, 51, the flamboyant left-wing industry minister in the outgoing cabinet, to a new post of Economy Minister. The move was an attempt to keep on board traditional Socialists after voters punished Mr Hollande in mayoral elections for embracing pro-market reforms.
