Magnitude 5.0 Earthquake Detected Off North Korean Coast

The Telegraph reported:

    A magnitude five earthquake has been detected 132km (80 miles) from the Korean peninsula early on Tuesday morning, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has said.

    The quake, which was said to have occurred at approximately 03:48 local time, took place at a depth of nearly 16km (10 miles) in the sea west of the Korean peninsula – just days after North Korea threatened to carry out a “new form” of nuclear test.

    While North Korean nuclear tests have previously been detected by the USGS quake monitoring center, the location and depth of the earthquake did not immediately suggest North Korean nuclear testing was the cause.

Yeah, the location really doesn't fit with a nuclear test.  To drill down 10 miles is something you just cannot hide doing.

If it was only a subsurface burst, then they just opened a giant can of worms because even China would flip over a non-underground test.

Either way, nuclear detonations generate a completely different kind of waves that are clearly different than an earthquake.  If it was a nuke, it would be very obvious, very quickly.

I agree. The folks at John Hopkins University 38 N  think tank says there is no evidence that there is a nuclear test was given as of March 20. This is their opinion "Recent commercial satellite imagery of North Korea’s nuclear and rocket test sites indicates that while activities continue, there is no evidence to suggest preparations for impending nuclear or long-range rocket tests as of March 20."
