The Role of the Mosque and the Muslim Community in an Honor killing.
Perhaps the reason why honor killings are spiking in the West (and in places like Gaza) is because they are sanctioned by sharia law, sanctioned by Muslim countries and sanctioned by a silent Western media.Reliance of the traveller copy red
The Palestinian Authority gives pardons or suspended sentences for honor murders. Iraqi women have asked for tougher sentences for Islamic honor murderers, who get off lightly now. Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but “the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour ‘provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.’” And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.” (Source: Jihadwatch).
A manual of Islamic law certified as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy by Al-Azhar University, the most respected authority in Sunni Islam, says that “retaliation is obligatory
against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (‘Umdat al-Salik o1.1-2). In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law.
A 41-year-old woman suffered “severe burns to her upper torso” after police said her estranged husband poured hot cooking oil onto her while she was sleeping.
According to police, the woman and her husband, 51-year-old Mohammad Chaudhry, had been separated for the past year.
However, she decided to sleep over at his apartment on Canton Street in West Haven Tuesday night to visit with her children.
She was sleeping in bed with one of her children when, around 4:30 a.m., Chaudhry, who is from Pakistan, entered the woman’s room.
Police said Chaudhry removed the child from the bed after putting the oil on the stove to boil. He then poured three to four cups of hot oil on the mother.
Her children told police they heard her “screaming in pain and rushed to her aid.”
The woman was taken to the Bridgeport Hospital burn unit where she is believed to be in good condition.
Chaudhry fled the apartment after the incident, but was detained by police a short time later. Police said charges are pending against Chaudhry, who is currently unemployed.
Eyewitness News did see a request for divorce from Chaudhry that was filed back in 2006. He told police that he poured the oil on his wife because of the divorce. Chaudhry said he believes she was cheating on him with another man.
Sources told Eyewitness News that the oil burned through the comforter.
Chaudhry appeared in Milford Superior Court on Wednesday afternoon and will continue his arraignment on Thursday.
Chaudhry is being held on a $750,000 bond.
Neighbors can’t believe someone would do something like this.
“It’s pretty quiet around here,” said one neighbor. “Every once in a while someone steals a car.”
