Krauthammer: Pro-Obamacare Thanksgiving ad has ‘creepy Soviet element’ [VIDEO]

Posted By Brendan Bordelon On 10:13 PM 11/28/2013

Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer ridiculed an Organizing for America commercial telling parents to give their kids a Thanksgiving scolding until they sign up for Obamacare.

“I love the part of the ad where the dad says, ‘We love you no matter what,’” Krauthammer joked Thursday on Fox News Channel’s Special Report. “What’s the dad supposed to say? You don’t get health insurance, you’re out of the house, you’re out of the will? I’m going to euthanize your dog?”

Organizing for America was a key component in President Obama’s election campaign and is intimately tied to the White House communications team. Krauthammer worried about the implications of tying partisan politics to family gatherings like Thanksgiving dinner.

“It’s ridiculous. And it’s got a kind of creepy Soviet element here,” he warned. “The essence of the overbearing state is that they leave you no haven from politics. And there is no place that ought to be yours and outside of politics as the family table, especially with a large turkey on it and everybody gathered all over the country. And they want you to talk about their political agenda?”

Obviously it’s nothing serious,” he continued, “but it’s just the tone of this that’s just been wrong from the beginning. Fix the website and let us have our turkey!”

Washington Examiner reporter David Drucker and Daily Beat columnist Kirsten Powers also weighed in. Drucker said he had “banned all political talking points from his Thanksgiving table,” while Powers called the advertisement “very cute” but worried it “didn’t really explain anything.”

Krauthammer also told viewers Obamacare was “designed” to double insurance premiums for young, healthy people in order to provide “free” healthcare for others.

“Everybody now discovers that the lunch is not free — it’s coming out of your pocket, and it’s coming after you lose your health insurance,” he said.
