Miramar, Fla. (CBS TAMPA) – The low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines is offering $29.90 one-way tickets to the Toronto region – and taking a shot at a recent admission from the city’s mayor – their ads promise: “We’re not smoking crack.”

The Miramar, Fla.-based airline is assuring passengers that their low airfare is real, and the marketing campaign comes in the wake of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s admission that he smoked crack and took part in various other illegal activities while in office. The scandal has put Toronto’s City Hall in an international media spotlight

“We’re not smoking crack,” reads the advertisement. “Our fares REALLY are this low!”

The airline’s trip to the “Toronto area” would actually put passengers on a flight to Niagara Falls, N.Y. – about an hour-and-a-half away from the city and on the other side of the Canadian border.

The ad went viral on Twitter and other social media platforms, but it is not the first time that the airline has infused their advertisements with recent political controversies.

This past July, Spirit Airlines introduced a “Weiner Rises Again” advertisement picking on the lewd photos and messages sent by New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner, Red Alert Politics reported. The ad used his reported name of “Carlos Danger” to market flight deals to Mexico.
