Pelosi To Introduce Immigration Bill

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi wants to introduce an immigration bill that would leave out a controversial border-security measure -- and reinvigorate a stalled immigration overhaul.

The California Democrat’s legislation would combine the comprehensive bill that passed the Senate Judiciary Committee in May with a bipartisan border-security bill from the House Homeland Security Committee, Politico reported.

“Leader Pelosi is proposing something closer to her ideal bill, and her intention is to keep the House moving forward which is a good thing,” Democratic New York Sen. Charles Schumer said in a statement.

The new push, by combining the Senate and House measures, could rally support from as many lawmakers in the House as possible.

“This should be a very easy thing for Republicans, as well,” Politico reported, quoting an unnamed aide.

The new legislation would strip a controversial $46 billion “border surge” amendment credited with securing enough Republican support to carry the bill in the Senate in June. The amendment called for placing more than 19,000 new border agents along the U.S. southern border.

In its place, Pelosi may include a bill approved along bipartisan lines by the House Homeland Security Committee months ago that spends no money upfront and requires the government to first develop a plan for gaining control of the southern border within five years, The Journal reported.

The GOP-controlled House hasn’t taken any action, and many House Republicans are skeptical of doing anything short of approving a series of piecemeal bills with a primary focus on enhancing border security, Politico reported.

Pelosi's version of the Senate immigration reform bill could be reintroduced in the House, the Washington Post reported.

The new move comes in the wake of bipartisan talks to produce reform fell apart.

Actually, I would rather have Pelosi to introduce an immigration bill than some RINO.  With Pelosi, the bill is practically dead on arrival.   It would be difficult even for a RINO to admit to his or her constituents that they voted for "Pelosi's Bill."

Hey Pelosi isn't there a fence that still needs to be finished? Wasn't that a promise as well.

first develop a plan for gaining control of the southern border within five years, The Journal reported.  Develop a plan....not to be confused with having a plan.

That's rather stupid and, like Obamacare, is solely designed to hide the actual costs of this sort of immigration "reform" until it's too late.
