Democrat raises prospect of special prosecutor for IRS

Here's an interesting and heartening development.

A Democrat on the House’s investigative committee raised the specter of a special prosecutor on Wednesday to investigate political targeting of conservative groups at the IRS from 2010 to 2012.

Rep. Stephen Lynch, Massachusetts Democrat, warned IRS and Treasury Department witnesses before the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform not to stonewall congressional efforts to get to the bottom of the scandal.

“We know where that will lead, it will lead to a special prosecutor. … There will be hell to pay if that’s the route that we choose to go down,” he said.

The Democrat’s reference to a special prosecutor was noteworthy, since the most vocal criticism for the IRS has come from GOP ranks in recent weeks.

Lynch is the most "conservative" member of Massachusetts' all-Democrat congressional delegation; of course, that's not saying much given how far out most of them are. But he's also potentially bucking for higher office (Senate/governor) and I suspect he wants to appeal to a broader constituency in the Commonwealth.

He's also putting it in perspective with Nixon and Clinton, whereby each time it resulted in impeachment proceedings.

The main thing for democrats is to keep all this stuff away from Obama.

In management theory, a top executive is responsible for what he knows about, and what he should know about. Guilty by reason of negligence.

But it is all orchestrated, planned "plausible deniability."

It's Chicago politics on a national scale. Do whatever is necessary for the agenda, just make sure the boss doesn't get any on him.

It's not shocking, but beyond disgusting that the media and the public have no interest in holding the man in charge accountable for anything. It's Chicago politics with a heaping helping of affirmative action.

Former AG Michael Mukasey was on with Megyn Kelly and they discussed this; he said it is actually a very bad idea because constitutionally any special prosecutor is directly responsible to the POTUS.....  he said it is much better for the congress to do their job in this regard.

So... thinking about what he sad -- no wonder DEMOCRATS are calling for a special prosecutor, it takes the responsibility off their shoulders and lets the WH control the investigation.
