A Triumph on the Page, The Great Gatsby Founders Miserably on the Silver Screen

<< < (2/2)

Cincinnatus:
I take it Mr Reed didn't much like this movie. He does, however, have one great line for a movie review: As the new Gatsby, Leonardo DiCaprio is hopeless, a little boy in his first After Six tuxedo.

I am sure there are others on here who remember this version and the incredible hype it received: Robert Redford was a perfect Gatsby in the pretty but boring 1974 version by Jack Clayton, but the movie was dead on arrival.

That movie was supposed to affect everything in the popular culture from clothing to taste in literature.

It bombed miserably.

Probably not. We rarely watch movies via cable or anywhere else. We do have "Blazing Saddles" on DVD, so one of these days we'll get to it.
