GOP expects to open convention Monday, despite storm
Tropical Storm Isaac could impact Tampa
Published On: Aug 23 2012 02:00:21 PM EDT  Updated On: Aug 23 2012 03:13:05 PM EDT

WASHINGTON -

Republican officials say they are moving forward with plans to hold the Republican National Convention on Monday as scheduled, despite an approaching tropical storm.

Convention CEO William Harris said Thursday he's continuing preparations and is working with Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, the National Weather Service and Florida officials to track the impact of Tropical Storm Isaac.

The storm is approaching hurricane strength. It's expected to move into the Gulf Coast early next week, just as thousands of GOP delegates and journalists pour into Tampa.

Harris says Florida officials have assured convention planners they have enough resources in place to respond to the storm should it make landfall. He says the primary concern is for those in the storm's path.

Tampa-area law enforcement says that the storm could complicate convention security.

The most reliable reports (although none are very reliable) put Isaac's track well to the west of FL. Tampa will probably get rain and some wind, but there's no likely chance of a problem. The hype is getting a bit tiresome.

That is what I am hoping just enough rain and wind to blow over their tents and make them run for the hills!

$20 dollars on a statement by Biden linking Hurricane Isaac and the RNC convention that is so stupid that it makes the news.

Note, the liberal blogs are using that phrase this week

I have no idea if it is true, but I have heard they have several pre-recorded speeches and 'infomercials' ready to go on air if there is a problem with the storm. I wonder how the networks would handle that if they were given a political infomercial instead of the live convention they want.
