Unusual Christmas/Host Gifts
« on: December 27, 2011, 07:16:13 PM »
Yesterday we hosted a Christmas open house for everyone we know.  Our daughter and her husband are in town and everyone who has not seen them since their wedding showed up for the party last night.

One of my wife's oldest friends, whom she has known since grade school, presented us with a lovely quart mason jar filled with the finest rendered hog fat.

That's right, a quart jar of lard, and a fine one at that.

Trudie finally had the pig she's been raising for a couple of years slaughtered this Fall and it dressed out at 986 pounds (without the head she informed us).  She kept half and sold two quarters, (and kept the head...) and had the extra fat rendered and packed in mason jars.  I would have preferred one of the hams, but she is our Trudie, and it was the thought that counts....

Anyone else receive a gift of interesting and/or questionable taste this year??  Please share.....
