U.S. shale activity dropped by more than 10 percent from a midyear peak to November, according to a new report Monday from the Norwegian research firm Rystad.

Energy companies completed about 50 shale wells per day in the U.S. in June and that number slipped down to 44 wells hydraulically fractured, or fracked, and completed by the end of November, Rystad estimates.

Oil prices plunged about 40 percent from early October through December, and pipeline shortages in West Texas' booming Permian Basin have slowed fracking activity in the region.

In fact, well completions activity dipped seemingly dipped everywhere except South Texas' Eagle Ford shale, which is nearer Gulf Coast port and refining hubs with ample pipeline capacity already in place, Rystad concluded....

50% is a lot for the segment which contributes quite a lot of activity in the unconventionals.
