Ted Cruz-Hating Esquire Editor Now Upset His New Beard Makes Him Look Good

How shallow are liberal journalists? Ted Cruz's new beard looks really good and Esquire managing editor Ben Boskovich is upset about that. See, he finds it easier to hate the clean-shaven Cruz and now that the Texas senator is looking better in his opinion, that has thrown Boskovich for a loop.

Despite his continuing hate for Cruz's conservative politics, Boskovich now sounds like a fan boy of his appearance. His conflicting attitudes is reflected in the title of his December 12 article, "Damnit, Ted Cruz's Beard Looks Tolerable Now." This conflict continues in the subtitle: "His greatest political opponent has always been his face. A few weeks off the razor has changed that."

What percentage of Esquire editors and staff are not metrosexual, beta males?  They're the sorts who buy/rent homes in dangerous i.e crime-ridden parts of big cities for the ethnic restaurants and the hedonistic night life and then wonder why their car got stolen/vandalized or they keep getting mugged.

Hey, it's small progress.  Leftists willing to acknowledge something good about a solid conservative Senator, even if it's only the sphere of aesthetics.

As a firm Cruz supporter -- he was my choice and the choice of my state and county in the 2016 caucuses, and I'd gladly vote for him again in 2020 or 2024 -- and long-time bearded man, I agree with the aesthetic judgements grudgingly offered in the article:  his shaven face was a negative aesthetic and electoral feature, and the beard actually looks good, good enough that his bearded face is a positive aesthetic (and I hope electoral) feature.

Esquire had an article in 2016 that Cruz can't win because he has a bad face, specifically the shape of his mouth.  They are not known for the depth of their political articles.

(I happen to be Bookface friends with the author.  He lives in Florida.)

There are quite a few TBRers who don't like Cruz or don't think he could have won because of his appearance.  Luckily most of the people elected president over the course of our history did so before TV.  I think the only one who would have gotten elected would have been Jefferson, Jackson and Wilson based on looks.

What about Trump getting rid of that bad comb-over and growing a beard?  I think it would make him look better, too.

 I like Ted Cruz, but I don't understand this fashion in beards. Simply avoiding the hard to shave areas just gives what I call the lazy beard. I can't think of anyone it looks good on. Idaho Cowgirl agrees for what it's worth.
