It’s not as if you can skip on that. It’s a central part of the story. You would think people knew this.

The New York Daily News reports:

    Furor over Nazi symbols in ‘Sound of Music’ play at NYC’s elite ‘Fame’ performing arts high school

    The hills are alive … with the sound of political correctness.

    Nazi props were temporarily declared verboten in LaGuardia High School’s production of the Third Reich-set classic “The Sound of Music” prior to the show’s Thursday night opening.

Brings back high school memories.  We did The Sound of Music as our senior class play, which, together with the role in which I was cast, resulted in my owning in home-made Nazi armband:  we had to make our own costumes and I played the Nazi admiral.  My big line was "You vill report to ze naval base at Bremerhaven immediately!"  (which was Maria's cue to make an entrance descending a staircase).  On opening night she missed her cue and I and, I forget which other character, bantered a bit about the need for the sudden transfer with me repeating "Immediately" louder so she'd make her entrance.
