Moroccan authorities said on Saturday they had seized more than a tonne of cocaine and detained seven people suspected of smuggling the narcotic from South America on the way towards Europe.

The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation said the cocaine was found in a truck along with two dinghies near the port city of El Jadida, according to a statement carried by the official MAP news agency.

Seven Moroccan citizens were arrested "for their alleged links to a transnational criminal network involved in the international trafficking of cocaine between Morocco, Latin America and Europe", according to AFP.

There definitely, is a big underground smuggling channel from Morocco to Spain, as the above says and from there, it moves to the rest of Europe.  Like all drug smuggling, it's a rough world. I read an account once of someone who was just passing the time on a Spanish beach at night in that part of the world when he indeed, from a distance, was able to see the drug smugglers doing their thing. It's been awhile, the writer might have even said he witnessed someone getting shot. So, it is a real black market.
