Quote
The future of The Weekly Standard, a conservative opinion magazine turned Never-Trump publication, is “uncertain,” a top editor has told staffers, according to a report.

CNN, citing two unnamed sources, reports Editor-in-Chief Stephen Hayes phoned employees Tuesday, saying he is unsure what will happen to the magazine.

The magazine’s precarious position comes after its leadership spent months searching for a buyer, the people told CNN.

The people explained that The Weekly Standard’s leadership had butted heads with MediaDC, the current parent company of the magazine, and that the two parties had agreed to allow Hayes to search for a new owner.

However, MediaDC recently informed The Weekly Standard’s ownership that the company was no longer interested in a sale, the people said.

I'm not sure where Fred "The Beadle" Barnes stands, but the rest of them are MSNBC side show acts now.

Kristol is certainly a con-man but hardly a principled conservative.
No surprise, as his parents were Trotskyites.

His variety of "Bastions of Conservative thought," in bowties, with Hahvahd PhDs, are a dime a dozen these days.

Conservative Thought needs to be much more, than pontificating about Adam Smith and Edmund Burke, and supporting every war in sight.

You pretty well summed up why the old guard Conservative movement is dead and buried and their house organs are burning to the ground. They have no ability to translate any of the ideas into real tangible items that are relevant to today's voters.

Said "olde guard" was losing traction by 1992, when both Buchanan and Perot proved the GOP should have been looking to working class Americans.

Those two previewed the Gingrich Contract with Americans success (however brief) and foretold of working class movements like Tea Party and Donald Trump.

@The Ghost

ANY publication that would allow Kristol to be an editor deserves to fail.

Maybe even any publication that would allow Kristol to buy an issue to read deserves to fail.

He IS the Bolshevik his father and grandfather was. The only difference is they were loud and proud about it,and he is working undercover to destroy America.

Well articulated.
For the Greeks, Romans, Scholastics; among many, conservatism was/is a body of enduring
principles involving attitudes, behaviors and sentiments concerning human nature.
For moderns, its a label applied indiscriminately to everything that exists or moves, be it
animal, mineral or vegetable.
Tune in to FOX tee-vee for a dose of such horse manure!!!

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
“This is not about dwindling subscribers. This is about strip-mining TWS for its assets.”

The future of the conservative magazine the Weekly Standard is at risk as the magazine’s ownership, MediaDC, is reportedly refocusing its attention on its other main publication, the Washington Examiner. And the Daily Caller is reporting that the magazine could be shut down as soon as December 14, though the company that owns MediaDC (and thus TWS) told CNN that it is continuing to explore possibilities and “does not have any news to share” at this point.

As one source told me, “This is not about dwindling subscribers. This is about strip-mining TWS for its assets” — namely, the magazine’s subscriber lists.

At the heart of the troubles is the Weekly Standard’s turn against Trumpism, which has proven a losing bet in a conservative movement that has increasingly embraced the president. MediaDC reportedly wants to jettison the anti-Trump brand of the Weekly Standard but use its subscribers to bolster the more pro-Trump — or at least Trump-agnostic — Examiner.
