Looking forward, the GOP has some fine new blood. Jeff Flake, Ben Sasse. Jeb Bush  Paul Ryan. Led by the senior statesman, Milt Romney.

Very soon Trump will be gone, much to the satisfaction of his detractors. The Senate will flip.

The entire US will become one-party rule.

Assuming you're being a wisenheimer ( wink777 ), Sasse is still in his first Senate term and had only a brief term previously as an assistant secretary of HHS under George W. Bush, several years before he ran for and won his Senate seat. He isn't anywhere near as ancient in age (he's 46) or political terms as Flake, Bush, Ryan, or Romney, and they're not anywhere near as truly men of the right as Sasse is.

If you're missing Cathy @corbe ... she usually drops out for a few weeks.  We could lure her back with a Roy Moore thread if you're game.

Sure, I miss @Catherine (no longer here) and @Chosen Daughter you're all good women and I learned a long time ago to not get involved.  Been admonished by all of ya, at one time or another.  It may just be me, but I'm sick and tired of all the fighting and I know I am guilty but I am trying to resolve my issues with the Trumpers here, most all of ya are top notch people!

That could very easily happen in 2020.  One party rule & socialism.  I fear for my kids and grandkids.

Reagan was the greatest president of the twentieth century.

With a helping hand from Margaret Thatcher and Pope John Paul II, he really did consign Soviet-style communism to the ash heap of history.

That period which began with the moon landing of 1969 and ended with fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 represents the pinnacle of Western civilization.

But from all pinnacles, there must again be "the way back down", and we're on it now.

What began on September 11, 2001 -- and our inability as a civilization to understand the true implications of those events -- put us onto a downward course that continues to this day.

Mr. Trump has at least a chance of slowing some of that decline.
I wish him all the best.

@FreeVulcan

Most people are clueless fools that pay attention to nothing that is not right in front of their noses, and has an immediate effect on them. By the time most people wake up the Dims will imported enough 3rd world trash to create a state of anarchy as the "free stuff" stops arriving, and lead to their dream of being able to declare a state of emergency exists so they can suspend the Constitution and declare Martial Law.

Once we let them get away with this,America is over because ONLY the leftists in charge will have the authority to declare the emergency has ended and to re-instate the Constitution/The Bill of Rights, and they will never do this.

They will be our masters in every sense, and it will be because "we,the peep-pulls" demanded that they "do something,DO ANYTHING,BUT RESTORE ORDER!"

Reagan wasn't close to Calvin either if you forgot. I recall a hell of a lot of spending going on in the 80's and a fair amount of govt' left when Ronny left.

I most remember Nancy and her Psychics and tarot cards.  I remember always thinking that the psychics were predicting the next move.

And here you are again @Chosen Daughter taking a stab at another First Lady.  You're really into that, aren't you?  How can you focus on the worst thing about a really nice First Lady?  Did it ever occur to you that the psychic thing might have been exaggerated by the Press?  They didn't like Reagan either.

I voted for Reagan twice.  And overall, I generally consider him one of America's better presidents.  However, there were negatives that took place during his presidency that would never occur with the current president.  Nearly 200 of our men were killed in Lebanon while he was president, and nothing done.

Reagan had what amounted to one of the highest tax increases in our history.  For those of you too young to know, Social Security tax in 1984 before the increase was I believe 6.2% up to $32,000.  There was no Medicare Tax.

Today it is 6.2% on Social Security and 1.45% for Medicare Tax with a max income of I believe $122,000.  Run those numbers!  HUGE DIFFERENCE, and they still do not have enough to cover the two programs long term.

And last but not least, the one act by the Reagan Administration that leaves him as somewhat a dog of history is the fact that the Social Security Trust could be robbed by Congress to spend however they see fit.  Pure unadulterated thievery and chicanery.  Almost no one speaks of this heinous act...no one.

I know President Trump would never do any of the above acts that were perpetrated against the American people under Reagan.  For that reason alone, he stands higher and taller than Reagan ever would.

Trump has stood tall against the worst opposition I believe a president has ever had to contend with in this great country.  Lesser men would weaken and implode, but he continues on.  Trump has kept most of his promises he made during his campaign, which is a rare quality for anyone in politics.

Trump has promised not to weaken Social Security, which is more than I can say about what Reagan did.

Trump will win in 2020 against HR Clinton again.  It would be nice if his own party supported him, which they simply have not done.  True disgrace really.  I hold Trump to be definitively one of the greatest presidents ever.  He has restored to the American people the claim to greatness.  We have been a nation that has brought freedom to the world, and too many that have come before Trump failed miserably.

I had forgotten that it was Reagan who did the unthinkable mistake of allowing our Social Security tax fund be raided by a voracious government.  That should never have happened and it doesn't even happen in private company pension funds.

Donald Trump, you're no Ronald Reagan
by Philip Klein
 | November 27, 2018 04:06 PM

President Trump should be holding off on future boasts that he is " far greater" than Ronald Reagan.

His latest comments were made in an interview that appears in a new book by boosters Corey R. Lewandowski and David N. Bossie called "Trump's Enemies."

As reported by my colleague Paul Bedard, Trump said, “The amazing thing is that you have certain people who are conservative Republicans that if my name weren’t Trump, if it were John Smith, they would say I’m the greatest president in history and I blow Ronald Reagan away."

He continued, “All these guys that if they looked at my agenda with a different name ... and he got the biggest regulation cuts in history in less than two years, judges, environmental stuff, getting out of the Paris horror show. If you said that conservative president John Smith did that, they would say he’s the greatest president. Far greater than Ronald Reagan.”

Trump is essentially making the case that anti-Trump conservatives will never give him credit for his accomplishments just because they have personal animus toward him.

Actually what you forgot @Emjay...in your rush to agree with this FNG's sloobering affection for Trump...was that the Greenspan Commission found that Social Security was near insolvency in the early 80's tha that tx revenues...despite increases in the FICA tax by Carter weren't going to keep the trust fund afloat.

Reagan helped get legislation passed to save social security.  Clinton was the one that used the money in the trust fund to increase the general revenue stream and mythically "balance" the budget.

I'm 99.9% certain where our new little Reagan basher got his info from and the person writing the article he's basing his "history" on appears to keep tinfoil in his back pocket if you know what I mean.

I get that you're 110% enamored with Trump...but please don't let that blind you when people come in to try and falsely rewrite history.
