FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Florida is suing the nation's two largest drugstore chains, Walgreens and CVS, alleging they added to the state and national opioid crisis by overselling painkillers and not taking precautions to stop illegal sales.

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced late Friday that she has added the companies to a state-court lawsuit filed last spring against Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin, and several opioid distributors.

Bondi said in a press release that CVS and Walgreens "played a role in creating the opioid crisis." She said the companies failed to stop "suspicious orders of opioids" and "dispensed unreasonable quantities of opioids from their pharmacies." On average, about 45 people die nationally each day because of opioid overdoses, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The State of Florida knows what doctors are prescribing it.  Take their licenses away.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

-Ayn Rand-

I like it on the surface, but;

In the sunny Retirement State?

They'd get mired in going through Doctor's Patient records and personally interviewing each one.

Docs are still just low level street soldiers, with Pharmacies playing Corporals in this scam.

My 'Viking Hunter' High Adventure Alternate History Series is FREE, ALL 3 volumes, at most ebook retailers including Ibooks, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and more.

In Vol 2 the weapons come out in a winner take all war on two fronts.

Vol 3 opens with the rigged murder trial of the villain in a Viking Court under Viking law to set the stage for the hero's own murder trial.

Stupid idea.
If they were selling them without perceptions, that would be another story.
If they are not, it is a stupid idea.

The state AG in Pennsylvania is doing something similar.  I agree with those who say it's a bad idea.  Opioids are legal for those who truly need them.   I'm sure pharmacies do their best to spot bogus prescriptions and maybe contact the prescribing doctor or law enforcement if a prescription looks suspicious.   Other than that, what else can they do?

"In 2010, Florida was known as the pill mill capital of the country," Jacobs continued. "Florida practitioners were prescribing oxycodone at levels exceeding all other states combined.
