Sanders to introduce bill to force Walmart to pay $15 minimum wage
by Sean Higgins
 | November 14, 2018 06:26 PM

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., will introduce legislation Thursday with Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., intended to force Walmart to pay workers at least $15 an hour. The bill would institute fines for corporations that buy back their own stock unless they set their workers' base pay at that level.

"Last year, 4 members of the Walton family of Walmart made $12.7 billion in 1 day. It would take a full-time Walmart worker making $11/hr over 653,000 years to make that much. Thursday, @RepRoKhanna and I are introducing legislation to make Walmart pay its workers a living wage," Sanders tweeted Tuesday.

Didn't walmart workers reject this scam in other socialist run cities where 15 bucks is mandatory.  The employees lost their bonuses and ended up making less money in the end.

Two things are likely to happen – products will get more expensive and workers will get less hours.
I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

Another overreach. But Congress had freely ignored the bounds of the Constitution for decades.

And those hours will get odder and stranger.

In the job listings, I found ads for package handler positions at shipping companies. The pay is $15 an hour—that sounds great, doesn't it? Except, well, they only offer 15 hours a week. You end up making less on that third-shift job than you would making the minimum wage in most states and getting a full-time 40-hour week... and you can bet the management is going to work you harder just to get their money's worth.

And a third thing - unskilled workers, like teenagers, will have less opportunities to find a job.

We really need to require all legislation to point out where in the Constitution the justification for said legislation exists.

In this case, there is none.

In fact, it will promptly be thrown out by the court, if it ever gets past a bill.

Bernie longs for a Castro/Chavez-style government wherein leftist elitists (commies) dictate which business is allowed to thrive and which is slave to the big G government.  And if Bernie and others like him get their way, America will get there.... eventually.  And they have enough stooges (useful idiots) that will go along with that agenda .... thinking that they will be allowed to subject their fellow citizens, whom they hate, to the whims and dictates of the "Government".

And a fourth thing; I don't think the government can force one company to pay a certain amount to their employees.  It cannot be done.

The only possibility would be to pass an across the board minimum wage and that would be a disaster for all the reasons noted above.

It’s only been going on since 1912, when Massachusetts passed the first minimum wage law.    *****rollingeyes*****

I was talking about singling out one company but any minimum wage law should be unconstitutional.

We have a local ice-cream chain named Bruster's.

After you give them your card before you sign, you are given the option to add a 20%, 15% or 10% tip to your purchase.

This is before the cashier becomes the person handpacking your pint/quart or making your sundae.

Annoying but you have the freedom to get your ice cream elsewhere.

They can try doing what New York is doing with fast-food joints: require certain companies that meet criteria like number of employees and field of commerce pay more than the minimum.

They can't target specific companies (that's unconstitutional), but they can craft legislation in such a way that only a certain company fits the requirements. These are mostly lawyers we're talking about here.

I was going to tip her anyway, but now I know there are no air pockets in my $11 per quart vanilla/orange sherbet creamcycle.

I don't know which is more funny. This absurd bill being introduced by two back bench clowns or people here have a serious discussion on an item of legislation that is going right into the dumpster the moment the ink is dry on the paper.

I tried computing what the cost of a typical dinner or drinks would become in a typical joint like Red Robin, where there's at least a dozen staff on duty.

The $10 cheesburger either gets smaller, or the price goes up at least 50%.
