Ginsburg, 85, hospitalized after fracturing 3 ribs in fall
« on: November 08, 2018, 02:55:05 pm »
WASHINGTON (AP) — Eighty-five-year-old Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fractured three ribs in a fall in her office at the Supreme Court and is in the hospital, the court said Thursday.

The court's oldest justice fell Wednesday evening, the court said. She went to George Washington University Hospital in Washington early Thursday after experiencing discomfort overnight.

She was admitted to the hospital for treatment and observation after tests showed she fractured three ribs.

How do you "fall" in an office...was she trying to change a lightbulb?

I'm sorry to hear that -- I understand that broken ribs are very painful.

I hope she has a speedy recovery and a wonderful retirement at home with her family!

An 85 year old can fall and break ribs from standing still.   Dehydration, lightheadedness....it's easy.

Falls are a big issue in geriatrics. This is potentially much worse than a few broken ribs.
Any fall at that age is a warning sign.

Time to retire, Ruthie, while you can still enjoy your remaining years.

Now RBG's the biggest liberal on the Court,  and Thomas may choose to retire soon.   Thomas would, of course, be replaced by a strong Constitutionalist.    Replacing RBG with same would unleash the furies of hell.    Just wondering -  what if Trump were to promise to nominate Garland to replace RBG, in exchange for the House Dems dropping their impeachment investigations for both the President and Kavanaugh?    Is that a deal worth making for the sake of our polarized nation?    Or should both sides just go all in on absolute, total warfare?

And how do you break ribs in a fall in an office?  Weird.  And 85 isn't 'that' old.... at least not old enough to warrant broken ribs in a simple fall.

If her legs buckle as she faints..even momentarily, her torso fell dead weight, hits the edge of the desk.

Good thing it wasn't her skull making contact.

What do they have to impeach Trump over?

Hell no.  No deals!

Besides, we are not nearly as polarized as the Press would have you think.

Damned right it's war.

Naivety is not one of my vices/virtures.

No matter how many years/decades, first chance they get they will impeach Justice Kavanaugh, and possibly Gorsuch, if they ever gain a super majority.

In their minds, the 2016 election was illegitimate.

Exactly.  They wish us all dead.  Literally.

That Americans oppose each other politically doesn't mean we seek death for our opponents.   The beauty of our system is the peaceful transition of power based on the results of elections.  I understand that the Dems have gone off the rails in response to the shock of Trump's election, and Trump in turn baits them for the edification of his base.

But in the end,  I have faith that the present fevers will subside and the America we know will return.  Part of that faith is based on the Christian concept of turning the other cheek and being willing to listen to the other side's legitimate concerns.  Put yourself in the Dems' shoes - what the GOP did in denying Garland a hearing was something that would have infuriated us had the shoe been on the other foot.  And it will be, inevitably, perhaps as early as 2020.   The vast majority of us who aren't hard core politicos have friends and colleagues on both sides of the aisle.   We disagree, but we grant their good faith and patriotism.

I understand that you believe the time for war is upon us.   150 years ago,  folks thought the same way,  and the nation was shattered.   Why not at least ponder the possibility of stepping back from the edge?

The way her shoulders are hunched over leads me to believe she has osteoporosis.  Her bones would break very easily.

I just broke one a few weeks ago - its true. This will result in her retirement fairly shortly.

Surely you jest.   The vitriol and violence coming from the leftists (Democrats) will only ratchet up now.... since they've been encouraged and energized from their power grab in the House.  And you talk as if the threats of violence are coming from the right.  Nobody's that naive... not even you, Shirley.

There was an article that showed actually, Garland Merrick and Kavanaugh agreed about 93% of the time on court cases, fwiw.

Anyway, you'd think she might miss a lot of time, maybe permanently but it might be quite awhile before she would actually not be a member of the court.

They should keep her in the hospital ... she's at serious risk of developing pneumonia.
