Hurricane Willa on verge of becoming Category 5 storm off Mexico's Pacific coast

Newly formed Hurricane Willa rapidly intensified off Mexico's Pacific coast Sunday and early Monday and became a major Category 4 storm on the brink of turning into a Category 5, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said. As of 5 a.m. EDT., Wilma had maximum sustained winds of 155 mph -- just 2 mph short of a Category 5.

Even at Category 4, Willa is "extremely dangeorus," forecasters warned, adding that it was likely to strengthen slightly into a Category 5 Monday morning.

The NHC said it could make landfall along Mexico's southwestern coast Tuesday night or Wednesday morning and bring with it a life-threatening storm surge -- especially near and to the south of where the center of Willa makes landfall. Near the coast, the surge will be accompanied by large and destructive waves. Willa is also forecast to bring high winds and heavy rainfall.

"While some weakening is forecast by tonight and Tuesday, Willa is expected to be a dangerous hurricane when it
reaches the coast of Mexico late Tuesday or early Wednesday," the center said....

Sorry about Texas, but maybe this is just what has to be endured for  Mother Earth to flush the excrement out of Mexico.

Here's a story I haven't seen covered.  There are two major storms making landfall in Mexico tomorrow night, from the Pacific. 

Vicente (Har!) is a Tropical Storm that will produce heavy rains across southern Mexico.  It is not expected to hit Hurricane wind strength.

Willa is another matter.  It is a Cat 5 Hurricane expected to degrade to a Cat 3 by landfall near Mazatlan.  This one is powerful enough to reach the Gulf of Mexico, and produce heavy rain all along the way.  Watch out New Orleans!

This is bad news for all the invaders that are heading our way.  I haven't seen any coverage of this in the news of the "caravan," and if this catches them by surprise there will be a lot of deaths from the flooding and tornadoes.

If history is a guide, the invaders will be heading for California, and assuming they get past Vicente they will be hitting the worst part of Willa.

This has the potential of severely impacting the so-called "caravan."  It's not getting much coverage (It's now a Cat 5), but I always watch the Pacific storms, because they sometimes make it up into AZ.

Meanwhile, there is a Tropical Storm hitting Mexico south of this named "Vicente."  They both bear watching.

This thing will well be degraded to a T.D. status by the time it gets a 1/3 of the way to Mexico.  If you mean severely impacting by means of flooding and mudslides, you might be right.  Wind (unfortunately) will not be an issue for the invasion force.

...Locally, up to 18 inches of rain is possible in western Jalisco, western Nayarit and southern Sinaloa in Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Up to 6 inches of rain is possible farther inland across Zacateca, Durango, southeast Chihuahua and Coahuila.

Dangerous flash flooding and landslides will occur because of the heavy rain in those areas.

After dissipating over Mexico's mountainous terrain, the remnant upper-level energy and moisture from Willa could eventually enhance rainfall in Texas and perhaps the northern Gulf Coast Wednesday into Thursday....

I've had to watch Hurricane's for my work for a couple of decades, and I can't remember a Cat 5 storm only producing "1-2" inches of rain a couple of hundred miles inland.  This seems suspect.

There is no denying it's a 5 right now.  Last I looked, sustained winds of 160, gusts to 195.
