Trump: 'It certainly looks' like Khashoggi is dead
By Brett Samuels - 10/18/18 04:04 PM EDT

President Trump said Thursday that it "certainly looks" like Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi is dead while vowing "severe" consequences if the Saudis are found to be responsible.

"It certainly looks that way to me. It's very sad," Trump told reporters before departing for a campaign rally in Montana when asked if the U.S.-based journalist was dead.

The president added that consequences for alleged Saudi involvement in Khashoggi's death will "have to be very severe."

"It’s bad, bad stuff," he said. "But we’ll see what happens."

Khashoggi, a resident of Virginia who served as an opinion contributor to The Washington Post, has been missing for more than two weeks. He was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2.

In an August 2018 article for the Washington Post, Khashoggi explicitly advocated for political Islam and lauded the Muslim Brotherhood. This isn’t a conspiracy theory or a smear campaign, it’s context the media is wholly ignoring in framing this story
In that article, "The U.S. is wrong about the Muslim Brotherhood — and the Arab world is suffering for it,", Khashoggi said:
Quote
There can be no political reform and democracy in any Arab country without accepting that political Islam is a part of it. A significant number of citizens in any given Arab country will give their vote to Islamic political parties if some form of democracy is allowed. It seems clear then that the only way to prevent political Islam from playing a role in Arab politics is to abolish democracy, which essentially deprives citizens of their basic right to choose their political representatives.
So if Middle Easterners want to vote - democratically - for an Islamic terrorist regime, let 'em. Am I reading that right? If so, he kind of ignores the atrocities such regimes inflict on innocent people at home and abroad, seems to me.

Nolte: Establishment Media’s Concern for Jamal Khashoggi Is Fake News
John Nolte
Oct. 18, 2018

Let’s assume the terrible rumors are true, that an unsuspecting Jamal Khashoggi walked into a Saudi consulate in Istanbul only to be tortured and killed.

While there is no question that is an awful thing and we should all feel terrible for him and his family, in the overall, existential scheme of things, it is time to turn off CNN and stop playing pretend.

These things happen pretty much every day in that part of the world, and now we are being conned… Conned by the establishment media with a shiny piece of fake news.

According to the media, over the likely death of Khashoggi, we are now supposed to get twisted into all sorts of knots and drop our support of Donald Trump and want to blow up America’s relationship with Saudi Arabia (our most important ally in the fight against Iran) and give up a $100 billion arms sale that will benefit America and Americans because … a non-American was killed not on American soil.

Again, I am not trying to downplay the horror of what probably happened to Khashoggi. But this is life in the modern Middle East. What’s more, Khashoggi knew the stakes and still he played with fire with his support of the Muslim Brotherhood and other sensitive political activities — not to mention a palsy walsy relationship with Osama bin Laden.

So why are we supposed to care so much about this particular human life that our extreme caring  will blow up Trump’s Middle East policy, a policy that actually seems to be working…?   ...
