Larry Kudlow: Trump knows taxes because he’s been 'dodging them for all these years'
by Joseph Lawler
 | October 18, 2018 01:04 PM

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow on Wednesday night attributed President Trump’s success on taxes to his experience in limiting his business tax liability.

“As a businessman, he knows a lot about taxes,” Kudlow said. “He’s been dodging them for all these years — legally. And he would show us in his offices stacks of papers and what he had to do.”

Kudlow made his remarks at a dinner hosted by the conservative American Spectator magazine on Capitol Hill in the context of a discussion about the corporate tax rate reduction enacted by Trump and Republicans. He argued that, while corporations nominally pay taxes, ultimately it is individuals and consumers that bear the burden of corporate taxes.

Poor choice of words, perhaps.

Using ‘dodge’ wasn’t the best word choice.  It’s similar to when Giuliani chose to say the Daniels money was ‘funneled’ through a law firm.
I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

Everybody dodges taxes, if they are responsible with their finances.  Trump likely used common tools like NOLs and passive loss carryovers.  If the IRS took issue with any creative accounting, they had the authority to collect.

Misleading headline, as usual. Kudlow said “He’s been dodging them for years – legally.”

What part of the word “legally” bothers NeverTrumpers?

There are two ways not to pay taxes. There’s tax avoidance, which is legal and an option for tax-burdened taxpayers, and then there’s tax evasion, which is against the law.

Trump in his businesses does what millions of taxpayers do every year, legally avoid paying some of the odious taxes thrust upon US citizens.

Dodge is a great word.

Dodging Taxes is even better.

Why would anyone wish a $12 word to take the message off topic?
I don't.

No doubt, Trump has spent a lot of money and time on taxes.

Maybe angry bitter poor people don't know this, but "Tax Dodge" is a fairly common term in accounting circles. It's legal.

Not "angry, bitter, poor people" (never Trumpers) necessarily.  I'd say most people would equate "dodge" with "evade."  Those same people probably  also don't know that there is a difference  between "avoiding" and "evading" taxes.  Avoiding is legal; evading is not.
