Amazon announced Tuesday it's raising the minimum wage for all U.S. employees to $15, effective next month.

The new minimum wage will benefit more than 250,000 Amazon employees — including part-time and temporary employees — as well as another 100,000 seasonal employees, the company said. Some employees who already make $15 per hour will also see a pay increase.

Amazon said the effect of the higher pay will be reflected in its forward-looking quarterly guidance. Shares of Amazon were trading a fraction of 1 percent lower before the market open.

Of course these people will lobby to get a federal minimum wage of the same amount.

This is to deflect from the growing number of employee abuses that keep popping up at their facilities. This is cheaper than the class action lawsuits they are about to receive.

Large companies are often the first to lobby for these types of things because it pushes out small business that can't pay it.

I have also seen large companies who want to get out in front and publicly declare policy bad for their bottom line then lobby the government for a law so other large companies have to follow suit.

Shell is a prime example, as they were the first ones to declare CO2 sequestration on all their large projects to act like a 'Greenie'. It caused all their Australian projects to be 25% more capital expensive.  Afterwards, they threw a lot of money at the Australian govt seeking to get a federal mandate to do the same thing, so their projects would not become noncompetitive.

The Result?  Likely less incentivized employees
