EMILY’s List to spend $37 million in midterms

EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock said on Monday that the group’s independent expenditure arm plans to spend $37 million on the midterm elections.
The group, which aims to elect Democratic women who back abortion rights to office, has already spent more than $14 million during the 2018 primary season, with the number of female nominees hitting a record high this year.
The additional $23 million will be used on digital and TV advertising as well as mailers in the final weeks before the November elections. Schriock said Monday that she believes the enthusiasm among women will help Democrats flip the 23 seats needed to take back the House.
“It really energized the Democratic voting base and brought new voters into the system,†Schriock told reporters at a Monday press briefing.
