A pizza delivery driver who shot and killed a man who stabbed him during an attempted robbery in Beaver Falls has been fired from his job.

In a phone call to management at the Rochester Domino's Monday, Pittsburgh's Action News 4 learned the driver was terminated. Management would not release an official statement but did say their drivers are not allowed to carry weapons. A response to an inquiry to Domino's corporate office read in part, "The brand does have a no-weapons policy, but we understand that local and state laws can supersede company policy."

The Rochester location is owned by an independent franchisee and, per a corporate spokesperson, "The franchise owner is responsible for all decisions relating to his employees."

Sad story.  This guy was protecting himself.  Being a pizza delivery driver is dangerous and the pay sucks. Why on earth would Domino's not allow a delivery driver the means to protect himself?  Is the company run by gun grabbers?

I hope the guy finds a job with a smarter employer elsewhere.

This can't be good for recruiting more drivers. Delivery people are robbed often. Telling them to go into a dangerous situation, and then forcing them to go in unarmed makes no common sense.

The delivery driver was taken to the hospital, but there is no word on his condition.

It is unclear if the pizza delivery driver will face any charges.

Looks like he's got a work comp claim and a lawsuit against his employer. 

One wonders if the Beaver Falls DA will charge him with a crime.

I have been told in some neighborhoods (housing fo de po) neither pizza delivery drivers or cab drivers will  deliver or pick up fares. If you want their services,you have to go to a "safe spot" in a local mall. You order the pizza or the cab and then meet them there.

I know of one neighborhood that was featured on tv that there was a "safe zone" there manned by their version of a neighborhood watch association where the drivers could pull up in well-lit areas with plenty of local witnesses as well as there is usually a cop car there.
