The Do-Gooders Who Got a Hard Lesson in the Existence of Evil
By Jeannie DeAngelis

In 2001, believing he was Superman and could fly, a third-grade boy named Julian Roman attempted to jump rooftops in the Bronx.  Julian died after slipping and smashing into an air conditioner protruding from an apartment window below.  At the time of Julian's death, in Manalapan, New Jersey, a boy named Jay Austin was cultivating a Superman mentality similar to the one that cost Julian his life.

Born in New York, Jay grew up in Monmouth County, attended the University of Delaware, and earned a master's degree from Georgetown University.  It was at Georgetown that Jay met fellow unicorn-chaser Lauren Geoghegan.  Austin, a vegan, spent his days advocating for sustainable living, worked for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) during the Obama administration, and owned a trendy micro-house he parked in Washington, D.C.

In 2017, Jay decided to follow in Julian Roman's footsteps and tempt fate.  At the time, Austin wrote on his bicycle blog that "[t]here's magic out there, in this great big beautiful world."  Apparently, Jay believed that "wishing for kind human beings" supernaturally creates kind human beings.  So, to prove that his brand of "magic" had power, he and girlfriend Lauren gave two weeks' notice and embarked on a cycling journey.

They must have had their heads stuck in the sand (or some equally dark place)....

to not know how brutal, dangerous and violent ISIS is... and where they operate.  It boggles the mind that anyone could be that uninformed and ignorant of the world around them.

Reminds me of the guy who used to pal around with bears to make a point about conserving them and that they're not that scary.  He got eaten by one and they had to hunt it down and kill it because of him.

This is one of the areas I part company with Libertarians. You cannot have a country without borders. Borders have to be controlled or they are not borders at all.

Well, I don't think that they learned anything.  They're dead.

It's the rest of the left that should, but won't, learn from this.

Yep! Good intentions turned into bear poop.

My husband calls them no good do gooders. Anyhoo, @skeeter brings up an interesting point using the term “heritage.” I belong to the season food/local food/slow food movement because I really, really like great food. We grow as much of our own as possible. I don’t buy tomatoes at the grocery store: they’re disgusting.

As a conservative I’m usually a minority in these circles, although conservativism is emerging in this area. When it comes to meat, eggs, and dairy, these liberal foodies are all about heritage breeds. It’s really important to them to maintain these breeds for their unique aspects. Why aren’t they just as concerned about human heritage as they are about food heritage? Well, perhaps it all goes back to Roe v. Wade? Food for thought, pun intended.

Two reasons.   One, they're stupid/ignorant.  Two, they're hypocrites.

Yeah. Treadwell. He got eaten, and so did his girlfriend.

Yeah, I’m convinced they think boneless skinless chicken breasts are a “heritage breed.” God forbid you get a neck and giblets! How will Kaileigh and Hunter grill those for their kids Briella, Rhyanne, and Sawyer’s dinner?

I wish I was making up those names but I’m not. I’m a gen-xer raising kids whose peers’ parents are millennials. It’s . . . interesting.

After the group had shot the bear that killed and Treadwell and his girlfriend, they were attacked by another grizzly as they were leaving the area.  They had to shoot and kill that bear too.
It continually amazes me there are people as naive/stupid as Treadwell. Most people realize that bears are dangerous at a very early age.
And after the numerous attacks on non-Muslims in the last fifty years, how any semi-intelligent adult can believe nothing will happen to them biking in a third-world, mostly Muslim country is beyond me.

The fact that they made it as far as they did tells me there was a general feeling that spread through crowds as they rode through the areas:  Shock.  Shock that somebody can be that stupid.   By the time they recovered from the shock and started looking for their swords the stupid tourists were gone.

I think his girlfriend was part of the bear meal too.

Nevermind, I see Roamer addressed that.

I remember reading a quote from some young mother concerning giving kids weird/made up names.  She wanted to make sure her children stood out from the rest. Sure, a weird name will certainly do that.
God knows, kids with traditional names will be unsuccessful in life.  But having a weird first name will guarantee success.

p.s. I have a millennial niece who gave her daughter a weird first name.  I have to bite my tongue to keep from laughing every time I have to pronounce her name.

Best I've heard so far...

"What's your name"
"Ladasha"
"How do you spell that?"
"The way it sounds.  'L-A.'"

There is a short video on this, showing a black car running them off the road, then being stabbed many times, to death.
