Lombok: magnitude-6.3 earthquake rocks Indonesian island

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake rocked the Indonesian island of Lombok on Sunday, sending people fleeing into the streets just two weeks after a quake which killed more than 460 people.

The quake was centred west-southwest of Belanting town in East Lombok, the US Geological Survey said, at a relatively shallow depth of 7km.

Residents said the earthquake was felt strongly in east Lombok.

2nd earthquake in Pacific in last 24 hours. The other one was near Fiji. I want to say these 2 quakes don't appear far from each other but I don't want to exaggerate their closeness.

That entire area of the Pacific is an ongoing "hotbed" of quakes... usually only around 4-5+ magnitude.   I watch it occasionally on this website, filter set at 5+.

I was shocked at the magnitude at  https://www.earthquaketrack.com/recent?mag_filter=5

Okay, Tom, am sitting here with Bob at kitchen table.  You know I posted the below on another thread.  Below that is what he says about the connection of the 8 and this 6.3.
About the 8 one:

"Earth Scientist Bob was disturbed about this because it is so deep. He said, "Wow".  He says: the movement is in the mantle (below the upper crust).  The liquid in the mantle started moving to cause this.  The liquid in the mantle appears to be solid but it is like jello. This will move the plates and that will cause earthquakes.  He says it won't be immediate but it will happen."

About the 6 one:
So, now it is happening with this 6.3:  The energy crated in the mantle by the 8+ one has gone where this 6 one just hit.  The plates are moving - the Australian plate is sub-ducting (sliding) under the Asian plate.

I wish you were here to see the drawing he made as he explained this to me.  Since this new one happened, there will likely be other earthquakes sooner rather than later as he first thought - he said this 6 one happening so soon after the first one tells him the energy created in the mantle of the 8 was immense to move that fast to the 6 mantle.

Interesting truths:
Energy, once created never goes away, it moves to somewhere else but is always there.  Physical substance also never goes away, it changes but is always there once created.

Time never starts nor ends:  It was and is forever.

Chaos Theory (flutter of Butterfly Wings)
Proven by Math, minute change, over time, bit by bit, will get to critical mass when the last Butterfly wings flutter cannot be absorbed any more, and Chaos results.

I'll go along with the first two, but that last one sounds a bit wacky to me (ie the part about a butterfly flapping its wings in China causing a hurricane in Texas).   Like something a leftie professor/scientist might 'come up with'....lol.   Loved the movie, though.

The flap of the butterfly wings is about one matter - tiny changes build up over time, and finally, one more flap causes chaos.  It is about only one condition - not separate conditions around the world.  The chaos theory is proven doing the math, adding bit by bit until no more bits can be added without change happening.

It's interesting to read on the history of earthquakes, some were devastating, of "Biblical" proportions as that Tsuami a few years ago that killed, I believe at least, hundreds of thousands. That was from an earthquake over 9.

I realize that.  But... many scientists have presented many theories over the decades.  This is just one of them.

Let's not forget or ignore the definition of "theory", shall we.  I bet that, for every theory a scientist can present (as fact).... God can and often does upend that theory without even trying...lol.

One reason why I don't believe everything that scientists posit.  Most of them don't even believe in God, who is the author of all things in the universe.

I for one, would neither include or exclude science based on the theological belief of the scientist involved.

I would base my assessment of the quality of the science itself.

Take an oil exploration effort. Would you only hire geologists that hold a strictly Biblical view?

Or... take global warming theorists/scientists.   They only care about the effects from the United States re: pollution from fossil fuels.  They couldn't care less about that of other major polluters like China and India.   If they were Christians, perhaps they would be more honest about it...?  JS...

Or how about if/when DNA science identifies hereditary genetic markers for certain "sinful" behaviors?

The one off Fiji was a massive 8.2 "deep focus" quake

Quote
The August 18, 2018, M 8.2 earthquake near Fiji occurred as the result of deep, normal faulting approximately 560 km beneath the South Pacific Ocean several hundred kilometers to the west of the Tonga Trench. Focal mechanism solutions indicate that rupture occurred on a moderately dipping normal fault striking to the west-northwest or the east-southeast. At the location of this earthquake, the Pacific plate moves approximately due west relative to the Australia plate at a velocity of about 81 mm/yr. The location, depth, and focal mechanism solutions of the August 18th event indicate that the earthquake is related to faulting within the subducted Pacific slab.

I studied climatology under skeptics.

One of them taught me that faith is component of science.  He talked about uncertaintly... If you've always heard "2, 4, 6, 8...10" do you know that next time it won't be "2, 4, 6, 8...batter has a bellyache"?  He was nobody's fool.  And he was intimately familiar with data collection, as he did it himself, hands-on.

Now, even he is a believer in anthropogenic climate change.  And a big believer, too.

He believes action must be taken. But he doesn't just target the US.  He points out that it must be global.

And there are many like him.  While there are many leftie ones who twist their science to meet their politics, there are many who don't.  We shouldn't chase straw men and paint all with a broad brush.

Climate on planet earth has ALWAYS changed.  That the idiot left felt forced to change the name to that.... since scientists proved that the earth was, instead, in a cooling pattern vs. a warming one.... just goes to show how ridiculous the "humans cause global warming" BS (Gore especially) are.

It's pure idiocy.... politically motivated idiocy.... just like they claim the sea level is rising at an alarming rate, glaciers are melting at an alarming rate, we're all gonna die because we burn fossil fuels....Waaaah!  Stupid.  (there, I said it)

What caused the planet to warm, ending the last ice age?

Prior to that, people walked to North America from Asia, and walked from the European mainland, to both Britain and likelyto Sweden.
