Powerful magnitude 8.2 earthquake strikes in the Pacific Ocean near Fiji and Tonga

A massive quake of magnitude 8.2 struck in the Pacific Ocean close to Fiji and Tonga on Sunday but it was so deep that it was not expected to cause any damage, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center also said the quake was too deep to cause a tsunami.

The quake was 347.7 miles (560 km) below the Earth which would have dampened the shaking at the surface.

Earth Scientist Bob was disturbed about this because it is so deep. He said, "Wow".  He says: the movement is in the mantle (below the upper crust).  The liquid in the mantle started moving to cause this.  The liquid in the mantle appears to be solid but it is like jello. This will move the plates and that will cause earthquakes.  He says it won't be immediate but it will happen.

I thought I saw original reports of being over 9. So, this was a mega-quake even with at 8.2. You usually don't see them this strong. Max is 10.
