The Late, Great USA

Is anyone really surprised by New York governor Andrew Cuomo saying, “We’re not going to make America great again. It was never that great.” The Left has been saying that, if not quite so bluntly, for decades. The only difference is that many more Americans now hold that view, including a disconcerting number of putative “conservatives.”

Dani Lever, a spokeswoman for Governor Cuomo, added that President Donald Trump’s Bull Moose patriotism “ignores the pain so many endured and that we suffered from slavery, discrimination, segregation, sexism and marginalized women’s contributions.”

Yes, we’ve heard that before too, but the crescendo of hysteria is reaching fever pitch. The Left now asserts that Robert E. Lee’s soldiers in gray were proto-Nazis; that Ulysses S. Grant’s soldiers in blue were genocidal Indian-killers; that America’s women still struggle against a colonial, patriarchal legacy of plantation owners in powdered wigs who kept their wives in comfortable confinement and their slaves as exploitable chattel; and that President Trump, far from being “a very stable genius,” which should be pretty obvious to everyone by now, is actually a moronic, unstable, but very clever agent of Vladimir Putin who quotes Mussolini in his sleep.

The conceit of the left is that because the U.S. was not perfect from the beginning like all the other countries in the world (snort), it is a horrible, rotten hole where non-white males are horribly oppressed and all white males live the lives of kings.
The reality is that non-white people from sh*tholes around the world swarm to the U.S. despite supposedly being horribly oppressed.
And all the "horribly oppressed" non-white people in the U.S. don't seem to be in any hurry to leave. In fact, they fight actions to deport them.
So who is right? Are the leftists right about America being a hellhole for non-whites.
Or are conservatives right in saying no place is perfect, but America is still a great place for most people...despite liberal actions in the past fifty years that have dramatically worsened certain aspects.
Again, if America is such a horrible place for non-whites, why are millions of them trying to get in legally or illegally?
Let's be honest, to get elected and stay in office liberal pols need suckers. They need losers...uh...people who think life is unfair and it's not their fault they're losers..uh...victims of the Patriarchy and White Supremacy.
Which, I guess, is why there are now a number of black billionaires and many multi-multi millionaires. Ditto for females. Females now outnumber men in college. Asian Americans make more money than white Americans.
The Democrat Party only exists because it can convince millions of people who are not victims that they are victims.
The glass is always half empty for the Dem Party regulars.

Asserting the greatness/non-greatness of any nation/state
by economic criteria is both absurd and unprovable.
Both Rome and Britain, promoted the values and virtues of
self-discipline, responsibility, courage, perseverance, loyalty
and honor; among many.
These allowed their Empires to survive and thrive; their size,
wealth and power being the result, not the cause of their values.
