Attorney General Jeff Sessions recently issued a temporary court order aimed at cutting down on a backlog of deportation cases straining the judicial system.

Sessions’s order was announced Thursday and makes it harder for immigration judges to postpone removal cases.

The order limits judges to the ‘good-cause standard,’ which means a deportation can only be blocked if the immigrant is likely to be approved to stay in the U.S. legally.

Examples include eligibility for asylum, a type of visa or a work permit.
