We have members here who have come out clearly thinking that they should be regulated like public utilities. If you go over to a certain other political forum, the opinion is overwhelmingly stacked toward the government not just regulating but going so far as nationalizing them in the public interest.

From social media threads and comments I've seen on the right, this poll falls in line with what many are thinking now. They want big brother to make things fair for them.

That is what happens when a people choose a king/dictator/cult of personality as their political messiah and national leader.

Government becomes God, and it doesn't matter whether it is the 'Left' that wants it or the self-identifying 'Right' that wants it.

The end result is the same: liberty dies - to thunderous applause.

As long as it is their guy killing it.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

Please don't tell me... that you actually believe that the Ipsos poll literally polled "all Republicans, which would only then allow them to them posit that "nearly half" of Republicans are for Trump doing what would be unconstitutional.   I could see the Democrats agreeing to that, but even then... the poll was of under 400 folks from each faction (Reps, Dems, Independents).

These polls, (https://www.ipsos.com/en-us/news-polls/americans-views-media-2018-08-07
and this one in particular) are bullsquat, and I'm being nice here.

The sample includes 323 Democrats, 363 Republicans, and 207 Independents.

Some of the limits of public support for freedom of the press are made stark with a quarter of Americans (26%) saying they agree “the president should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in bad behavior,” including a plurality of Republicans (43%).

I agree, I don't believe these polls, DNC psyops again.  Why believe it? I'm waiting for some agency like News Busters to bust this.

There is merit in noting those things as likely.   However - there are a good number of Trump supporters on social media and Facebook in particular that I have read who have opined about their desire to have Trump take over or shut down the 'fake news media'.  I do not know if that is an indicator that the percentages of Republicans who would embrace such a thing is half of those polled, but I'm astounded to read it from lifelong Republicans I have known for decades.   Things they would have gone absolutely batshit crazy out-of-their-minds about had the Leftists suggested something similar.

But because they now sound like parrots 'Fake news!  Fake news!' they have decided it is the role of government to silence those things they have decided are 'fake', as long as it is Trump doing it.  They have literally said that Trump needs to 'level the playing field'.

Where have we read that justification for big government before?

It is funny to read those comments considering it was not long ago that a lot of these people were beside themselves when the Democrats were pushing the idea of licensing journalists and excluding free speech and press rights to anyone not licensed.

But - now that we have a Trumpian version of this idea floating out there - it's interesting to read how many whom were upset then, support it now.

From 2016, maybe this qualifies as a citation:

Evidence for massive liberal bias in Ipsos polling of the Trump vs. Clinton match-up

By Sierra Rayne

Stepping out of reality into the rapidly expanding landfill of polling data biased against Donald Trump reveals what a disaster is taking place when it comes to surveying the public's actual opinion -- rather than the desired liberal narrative -- about the 2016 general election.

Public Policy Polling (PPP) has released yet another state poll on the Trump versus Hillary Clinton match-up, this time for Virginia. Yesterday's article examined a range of PPP's state-level polling data in the Trump v. Clinton cage match, revealing some apparently serious liberal bias. The Virginia poll just adds to the concerns.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
No and hell no. If you don't like it don't watch/listen/read.

For that matter, look what outlets like CNN do to the leftist cause every time they shill for them. They practically stick C4 in their mouths and detonate.
The Republic is lost.

Seriously.... I wouldn't fret about it.   I do not believe... facebook and twittering twits' comments aside... that "nearly half" of Republicans are for Trump doing something that totalitarian and unconstitutional.

And... maybe it's just because of the state being Texas (???), but none of my relatives/family, friends, neighbors or co-workers have been "polled" either.  It was one of my pet peeves at one time, which prompted me to ask.  Funny/odd, eh?   Almost like the pollsters don't 'want' the opinions of someone from Texas....

for some reason.

Again.... FAKE.

One of the many reasons I am no longer a "Republican."

Our side now wants what only their side used to want.  **nononono*

Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

"Sometimes I think the Church would be better off if we would call a moratorium on activity for about six weeks and just wait on God to see what He is waiting to do for us. That's what they did before Pentecost."   - A. W. Tozer

Use the time God is giving us to seek His will and feel His presence.
