Cow’s milk was added to Almond Breeze, FDA says, sparking a recall in 28 states

In the decadeslong war over milk — with purveyors of cow juice vs. the people who make an array of plant- and nut-based drinks — this is as close to consorting with the enemy as it gets.

The manufacturer of popular Almond Breeze announced a recall for what some would say is a sacrilegious act: Somehow, cow’s milk got into their almond milk.

The recall affects nearly 150,000 half-gallon cartons of Almond Breeze almond milk shipped to wholesalers in 28 states, including Florida, according to the Food and Drug Administration. That is less than 1 percent of all the refrigerated almond milk shipped by HP Hood LLC in the past month.

I don't..... understand how you could get milk from almonds in the first place.

Secondly, for people that don't like milk....why would they want to drink a milk-like substance?

One thing is that "lactose intolerance" that some people have, now, they are able to remove the lactose from the milk.

They have a Flax Milk, good Omega 3s in it.

Some of these are pretty good when they flavor them, usually as chocolate. Vanilla too, though, regular milk, I never see flavored as vanilla.

So, there are probably indeed, a few reasons, people might prefer alternatives over milk. I wish "raw milk" was readily and widely available. It's suppose to be very good for you but has some drawbacks as to storage, not being pasteurized, etc.

And, it has fewer calories.  You can have your "milk" and drink it too.

I can't speak for everyone, but after years of drinking milk, I suddenly developed a digestive intolerance to it. I developed a lactose intolerance in my 20s  (lactose is a major component of cow's milk), but I could handle milk as long as the lactose could be removed.  Then a few years ago  I found I couldn't drink any cow's milk period.   So these "fake" milks are a godsend for people like me.  Most are fortified with calcium and other nutrients to make them as close to cow's milk nutritionally as possible.  Soy milk is probably the closest to cow's milk nutritionally in that it has the protein many other milk substitutes lack.  But I believe all of them have calcium we old ladies need for our bones.

I like the taste of these milk substitutes.  Some actually taste better than cow's milk, IMHO.
