Trump now says son's Trump Tower meeting with Russians meant to 'get information' on Clinton

Sometimes the best advice is to shut up, not give your enemy ammunition.

President Donald Trump said Sunday that the meeting between his son, Donald Trump Jr., and a Russian lawyer in June 2016 was “to get information on an opponent,” seemingly contradicting a statement from more than a year ago that the meeting focused on a Russian adoption program.

“Fake News reporting, a complete fabrication, that I am concerned about the meeting my wonderful son, Donald, had in Trump Tower,” he tweeted Sunday morning....

...and he does this just a couple of days after the narriative FINALLY shifts to Obama's involvement with the dossier. The focus was finally moving off him and he reaches out, grabs it by the.... And yanks the attention right back to himself.

So what?  Getting information on Clinton is called opposition research.  They all do it and not only is it not illegal, it's not even unethical.

But - @AbaraXas is right, he should have kept his mouth shut and let the 0bama story be told instead of drowning it out.  Like he's going to keep his mouth shut.

Regarding the first part, they technically could have been in violation of various campaign finance regulations. (as would the Clinton camp)

One of the problems is him and Junior have made so many different statements on this, they are giving the media fodder at every turn.

As we were lectured a week ago by some of Trump's biggest fans on this board, it is the duty of the President to lie, and to engage in the necessity of lying politically, and personally - in order to keep us safe.

We should only believe what Trump says as the words are leaving his mouth or his thumbs.

They will change again later, and then THOSE are the words to believe... at that particular moment.

This is the one example of "collusion" that is easy for the public to digest and understand:   Trump's son falls all over himself in his eagerness to meet with Russians who say they have dirt on Hillary.   Especially if Trump, Sr. was aware of the meeting and its apparent purpose beforehand, this is easy to package into a sound bite that makes things look very bad for the President.  Especially since the party line had been this was a meeting "primarily" about adoptions.   

Sure, campaigns conduct opposition research all the time, but do they do so by meeting with representatives of foreign powers, especially with those who are ostensibly our enemies? 

If Mueller alleges collusion or conspiracy with respect to this meeting and Trump's knowledge of it,  I predict the blowback may be catastrophic.
