Illegal Immigration Now Far More Dangerous Than Five Years Ago

Customs and Border Protection chief Kevin McAleenan reports huge increases in unaccompanied children, criminal activity

    By Connor D. Wolf | Friday, July 27, 2018

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Kevin McAleenan said Friday far more unaccompanied children and family units have crossed into the U.S. illegally since 2013 than ever before.

“It’s really a dramatic difference, over the last five years even,” McAleenan said during a conference hosted by the Bipartisan Policy Center. “We usually always had single adults, and usually males. 90 percent through 2008 were single adults. Now we’re seeing this year a full 40 percent crossing our border or either children unaccompanied, that’s 15 percent, or family units, 25 percent.”
