What is metformin?

Metformin is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels.

Metformin is used together with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Metformin is sometimes used together with insulin or other medications, but it is not for treating type 1 diabetes.

It can help many control blood sugar.

It can also lead to some learning about "rectal leakage".

It can be best to work up to larger dosages.  Jumping from 0 to 2,000 mg can cause digestive issues.

When I was first diagnosed as a diabetic, I was prescribed Metformin and Glyburide.  Metformin gave me every digestive issue known to man, plus a constant splitting headache and I rarely get a headache.  And between the two, I was having episodes of hypoglycemia.  Really didn't need both meds to control my blood sugar.  Doctor finally instructed me to quit taking it.
