Republicans vote to oust Republican governor (W. Virginia)

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice -- a billionaire tax cheat -- switched parties last year, but I and many Republicans wish President Trump told Justice to pound salt. Besides refusing to pay his taxes, Justice refuses to live in Charleston.

That refusal may be his undoing.

"The Wood County Republican Executive Committee voted unanimously this week to support pursuit of impeachment articles against Governor Jim Justice," radio talker Tom Roten reported.

Jim Justice is the gift (of cow manure) that just keeps giving. He ran as a Democrat against an establishment Republican, and got elected with the help of the Democrat machine. Shortly after taking office, he switched parties. A good number of Republicans were not pleased, because they knew he was a phony and a deadbeat. He has never lived in the governor's mansion, right next to the State Capitol, and he essentially doesn't even show up for work at all. Geez, Obama didn't work, but at least he lived in the White House!

A Democrat member of the House of Delegates has filed suit to force Justice to obey the law requiring him to live in Charleston, and a Republican delegate also has weighed in (no pun intended, considering Justice is also known as the quarter-ton governor):
Quote
...  Politically, these are not comfortable words for me to say. Jim Justice and I are, after all, both Republicans and supposedly on the same team. But there comes a time when you have to call a spade a spade and put the interests of state ahead of political affiliation.

I’ve been deeply disturbed by the news of late, both the things that have been published and things heard inside the Capitol. There now seems to be a revolving door in this administration, with senior staff departing, fired, or rumored to be on the way out. It’s unclear who is in charge these days.

This is not the way to run a state.   ...

The bottom line is this: It’s time for Jim Justice to decide if he’s going to be a part-time Governor while tending to his own businesses back home, or if he’s going to devote himself fully to the job to which he has been elected.

Decisions are made by those who show up. It’s time to start showing up.
Entire statement here.

A guy who is very involved in state politics and tweets as "Byrd's Finger" noted the following:

BIG DATA: If you examine public records of @WVGovernor's political spending from 2000-2016, you learn that 98.15% of his donations went to Democrat campaigns. Another reason why he's the greatest @WVGOP Governor of all time. https://bit.ly/2tA3bn4
Bottom line, neither party wants to claim him, and the state capital is in disarray.

Audit: WV unlawfully executed flood relief contracts worth millions and helped no one
By Brad McElhinny in News | June 24, 2018 at 4:23PM

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — As West Virginia recognizes the two-year anniversary of a deadly flood, legislative investigators have issued a scathing report about contracts that were supposed to provide the framework for the state’s long-term response.

West Virginia has been operating under multiple long-term flood relief contracts worth millions of federal dollars unlawfully, a report from the Legislative Auditor’s office has concluded.  ...

What’s worse, the Legislative Auditor questions whether any homes actually have been completed under the Rise West Virginia housing reconstruction program, according to the report presented to state lawmakers on Sunday. ...

Long-term flood relief was run through West Virginia Rise and the state Department of Commerce, where Mary Jo Thompson, a niece of Sen. Joe Manchin and his constituent services director when he was governor, is director of community development.  ...

West Virginians who expected government help with long-term housing months ago have still been waiting.  ...

Sounds like a mine fire that's been smouldering under the surface for a long time.
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16
I will NOT comply.

The governor disagrees with the criticism of the flood relief program, and the state delegate who has filed suit against him responds:

Legislative Auditor is wrong on RISE. My administration stands by the attached numbers released Friday by the @WVNationalGuard. As of today, eighteen families have been handed keys to new homes. Read more here: http://bit.ly/2K5K53c  #WV #WVGov
