GOP senators drafting legislation to keep immigrant families together
By Jordain Carney - 06/19/18 11:28 AM EDT

GOP Sen. John Cornyn (Texas) said on Tuesday that a group of GOP senators is drafting legislation aimed to preventing the separation of immigrant families along the party.

Cornyn, the No. 2 Senate Republican, said the legislation is currently being crafted by a working group of GOP senators, but they are hoping to pitch the Senate GOP conference on the bill as early as the Tuesday policy lunch.

"The bottom line is that it would make sure families stay together through the entirety of the legal proceedings and make sure they get an expedited hearing in front of an immigration judge," Cornyn said.

Oh brother!

Yep!  Sad, but it's politics.  Republicans are terrified ... maybe with reason ... that this media hysteria about crying children torn heartlessly from their parents' arms is resonating with voters.

Even Ted Cruz is worried ... according to that worthless rag, The Dallas Morning News, (which, by the way, went all out 'Trump is abusing children this morning-)

"Ted Cruz proposes faster deportation to end the need for family separation at border
Stung by Democratic attacks over his defense of the Trump administration's family separation policy, Sen. Ted Cruz sought Monday to distance himself from the wrenching images of child migrants behind chain-link fences.

Cruz said he will file legislation mandating deportation within 14 days for anyone whose asylum claim is rejected — fast enough to not run afoul of court rulings that cap family detention at 20 days.

"All Americans are rightly horrified by the images we are seeing on the news, children in tears pulled away from their mothers and fathers. This must stop," Cruz said in a written statement.
Polls released Monday by Quinnipiac University and CBS News found that two-thirds of Americans oppose the family separation policy."

I don't believe either of those polls; when have they been right?  But I guess it's enough to scare somebody who's running for election against the adorable Beto.
