Dem lawmakers make surprise visit to ICE detention center
The Hill, Jun 17, 2018, Brett Samuels

Several Democratic lawmakers on Sunday paid a "surprise Father's Day visit" to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in New Jersey, capping off a week of heightened tensions surrounding the issue of migrant family separations.

Reps. Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.), Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.), Adriano Espaillat (N.Y.), Carolyn Maloney (N.Y.), Frank Pallone Jr.(N.J.), Albio Sires (N.J.) and Bill Pascrell (N.J.) arrived around 9 a.m. at the Elizabeth, N.J., center, which houses migrants who were separated from their families after illegally crossing the border.

According to Jeffries, the lawmakers were blocked from entering the facility after meeting initial resistance from ICE staff.

"After being made to wait over an hour. After having to deal with local PD. After banging on the door and making it clear that we WILL NOT MOVE until we're allowed in, ICE is finally granting us access to see individuals who have been separated from their families," Maloney tweeted.

“We are now inside speaking with detainees who were separated from their children when they sought asylum in the US from terrible violence and danger at home,” Nadler tweeted.

"Protests outside the ICE detention center in Elizabeth continue to swell as I and my House colleagues tour the facility. Americans are fed up with the Trump administration's cruelty," Pascrell tweeted.

Illegal immigration is a crime, which means there are consequences when you are caught. American citizens who go to jail/prison are separated from their families every day, illegals don´t deserve some elevated status.

The Midterm election campaigns are now underway.

The GOP Reps and Senate candidates will be on their own, to weather outrageous charges.

Whether in the US, Mexico, Central America, Italy, Austria, Hungary etc. the rime forces behind the "migrations" are the International Left/Progressives.

The media are complicit in making those desiring civil society, to look as bad as possible.

IOW, Hakeem Jeffries is a flat-out liar, according to Carolyn Maloney.

I wonder why they are not outraged at parents who put their children in danger to cross the border illegally?  Some are found dead on either side of the border.  Some come alone and become victims of crime.  Some are transported in trunks or truck in the blazing sun.

If the Dems are so concerned about children they should get on board to a permanent stop to illegal immigration which always puts the child's safety in danger.  I don't think that a bed in a immigration facility where they receive care and food is anywhere near the horrible things their parent put them through.

AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

Why? Because illegal aliens are blameless, pure as the driven snow and oh so much better than US citizens in the eyes of the 'rats.

When was the last time Democrats visited a US prison to find out how these inmates feel about being separated from their children?

Why do illegals always receive better treatment and more consideration than American citizens?

McCain for sure.  Once his wife can find his phone to do a text about it.

Dear Secretary Nielsen and Secretary Azar:

We write regarding the safety and security of young children immigrating to the United States.  Secretary Nielsen recently appeared before the U.S. Senate and testified that immigrant parents and children who present themselves at U.S. ports of entry to request asylum will not be separated.  Despite Secretary Nielsen’s testimony, a number of media outlets have reported instances where parents and children seeking asylum at a port of entry have been separated.

The Washington Post recently reported that a Honduran mother who sought asylum by presenting herself to immigration authorities at an international bridge in Brownsville, Texas, was separated from her 18-month-old child.  The mother was not reunited with the child for months.  An ongoing case in the Southern District of California presents a similar story, where a Congolese mother was separated from her six-year-old daughter for more than four months despite seeking asylum on grounds of religious persecution at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. These accounts and others like them concern us.

In light of this, we request responses to the following questions:

1.      When families present themselves at a legal port of entry seeking asylum, are children separated from their parents?

a.       If yes, how many children have been separated from their parents when seeking asylum at a port of entry and for how long do these separations last?

b.      What DHS policy or legal theory provides the justification for these separations?

c.       Are these separations being carried out to deter people from seeking lawful asylum in the United States?

2.      Please describe DHS procedures for the processing of asylum applications by parents with children who present themselves at legal ports of entry.

3.      Are there any existing or pending procedures to keep parents regularly informed of the welfare of their children and to help them re-establish contact and custody at the end of any separation period?

a.       If so, please provide us with a copy of these procedures.

4.      Are training protocols in place for the personnel who process, transport, or otherwise care for separated children, to make the separation process less traumatic.

a.       If so, please provide us with a copy of these protocols.

It is critical that Congress fully understands how our nation’s laws are being implemented on the ground, especially when the well-being of young children is at stake.  We look forward to your prompt response to this inquiry.
