Prosecutors restore Michael Cohen's shredded documents

About 16 pages of shredded documents belonging to Michael Cohen were reconstructed by federal prosecutors, they said in a court filing Friday that described the effort they're making to recover information about President Trump's former lawyer.

Another 731 pages of of messages, including call logs, from encrypted messaging apps like WhatsApp and Signal have also been recovered, prosecutors said. They provided the update in a two-page letter to U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood on Friday.

The Manhattan judge is overseeing the case involving Cohen, who argues that many of the materials seized by the FBI in April 9 raids fall under attorney-client privilege and should not be allowed to be used by federal prosecutors in the case against him.

Wood set June 15 as the deadline to determine which of those records fall under the privilege, a task that was given to a special master. Nothing has yet been filed on the public docket.

Federal prosecutors also said they are still extracting information from one BlackBerry of Cohen's, and have already returned another to him.

Cohen, 51, has not yet been charged, though he is reportedly under federal investigation for bank fraud and campaign finance violations related to his $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels just weeks before the 2016 election. This is interesting on several levels.
First, Mueller should never have had access to ANY of Cohen's files at all. There has to be a legal way to challenge this confiscation. It is ridiculous. It makes a mockery of attorney/client privilege.
Second, the only people I know of who can reconstruct shredded documents is the NSA. Maybe the FBI can do it. But I know the NSA can. Who reconstructed the documents should be an issue. Because it likely means that agencies not involved in this discovery may have been involved. Who did it?
Third, if you are going to buy a shredder, make sure it is the kind that makes confetti. Those can't be reconstructed my anyone that I know of.

It doesn’t make a mockery of attorney/client privilege.  That’s why they have a master who is doing a
‘taint’ review to determine what is privileged and what is not.

The court-appointed special master reviewing the materials seized by the FBI from former personal attorney for President Trump, Michael Cohen, in April released another report Friday, saying only a small fraction of them fall under attorney-client privilege.

According to court documents, Barbara Jones reviewed eight boxes of hard copy materials, which she said contained "639 total items consisting of 12,543 pages." Of these, Jones said she agrees with Cohen’s defense and federal prosecutors that 13 items are privileged or partially privileged, and one “remains under consideration.”

Jones also reviewed the contents of two phones and one iPad.

All that means is that he was 'targeted' by Mueller because he knows Trump.
I mean the guy is not John Gotti. If he didn't know Trump, nobody would know his name.

They just need to scan the shreds into a computer and let the computer reconstruct it all... Even with a cross-shredder. Should have burnt it.

A confetti shredder is not a "cross shredder."  It literally grinds the paper into confetti that cannot be reconstructed.  I have one.
