Trump claims parents of Korean War veterans begged him for help during the campaign. They'd be at least 100.

In his interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier that aired Wednesday night, President Trump acknowledged that any deal with Kim Jong Un would have to include verification that North Korea was actually destroying its nuclear weapons and infrastructure, but he pointed to one concrete commitment Kim had made: returning the remains of Americans killed or captured during the Korean War. "We have thousands of people who have asked for that — thousands and thousands of people," Trump said. "So many people asked when I was on the campaign. I would say, 'Wait a minute, I don't have any relationship.' But they said, 'When you can, president, we'd love our son to be brought back home — you know, the remains."

Let's do the math. Say an American solider was 18 when he was sent to North Korea in the war's final year, 1953 — he would have been 80 in 2015; if his parents had given birth to him when they were 18, they would have been 98 in 2015. More realistically, the parents would have been well over 100.

What a pathetic joke this guy is.  The truth means nothing to him.

Its well documented that families have lobbied for the return of remains.   Perhaps he thought they were the parents or got confused.

Regardless its a stupid thing to complain about.

you're actually complaining about him trying to get back the remains of fallen soldiers.   pathetic

I think we all know that Donny was saying here, but leave it to the Socialists at The Week to need to parse words to manufacture outrage.

Regardless its a stupid thing to complain about.

Unless Obama said it.  Then I imagine you would be making major hay out of both the empty statement and the math to showcase yet another lie told for public consumption and self-promotion.

Rightfully so.

It's sad you've morphed yourself into sounding just like an Obama drone:  "Don't listen to the substance of what the president says - rather, applaud the intent behind it."
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

That's exactly the point.   888high58888

It's not as much President Trump as it is those who aren't consistent.

One of those cases where the complaint says more about the complainers.

Nope.

If you honestly -- honestly -- can't see the difference . . .

Wow, just wow.

Wow, just wow.

What I see is little people complaining about ants.  Discontent with their level of irrelevance and seeking to go even lower.

Yeah he said thousands of people asked him to 'bring our sons home'. If you listen to this and all you hear is a lie then maybe you need to step back for a bit.

If it's so insignificant, then why do you get so worked up about people pointing it out?

So if I put some cyanide in a delicious chocolate cake, it's insignificant because the cake is so good?

That wasn't "all I heard"... but just like I'd criticize President Obama for idiocy amongst positives, I'll criticize this POTUS.  I'm not a hypocrite.

Seems to me Trump gets "confused" a lot.

Those of us who haven't boarded the Trump train have noticed that Trump brags a lot.  And most of his bragging consists of lies.  The pro-Trump crowd either hasn't noticed or have ready-made excuses for his behavior.

He obviously meant family members.

But...it's fodder for those who live for this kind of stuff, so the reaction is predictable.

@driftdiver I agree with you 100% on this.  This is a totally stupid, pointless, mean spirited attack on Trump.  The statement indicates that his heart is in the right place, and for a statement of this sort, that’s all that really matters.

As is the reaction by those who live for ignoring every lie he tells and mocking those who point them out.  Every criticism of Trump is responded to with attacks on good TBR members.

Isn't it tiring?

Ah yes, the heart is in the right place, so the truth of the words don't matter.

How many times did the left say that about Obama?

Sorry, but in this case the truth that matters is the truth of the speaker’s sentiment, not the truth of the statements the speaker uses to convey that sentiment.

Even I can see that Trump was speaking generically for the purpose of conveying a more meaningful truth:  there are still families with members whose remains are still in Korea and they would like those remains returned, and Trump appears to see that as a worthy goal.

Even I can see that.

It's still equivocation that leftists do all the time.

Do tell, where is the (Trump) lie in this story?

I guess it depends on your definition...

Quote
'When you can, president, we'd love our son to be brought back home — you know, the remains."

This is an untrue statement.  No one said this to him.  No one.
