Austria to shut seven 'political' mosques and expel imams

Austria has said it will close down seven mosques and expel imams who it says are funded by foreign countries.

Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said the move was a crackdown on political Islam.

Some mosques are suspected of having links to Turkish nationalists. In April images emerged showing children in Turkish army uniforms re-enacting World War One's Battle of Gallipoli.

The Turkish president's office called Austria's move "Islamophobic, racist and discriminatory".

(CNN)Austria's right-wing government plans to shut down seven mosques and expel up to 60 imams in what it described as "just the beginning" of a crackdown on "political Islam" and foreign-funded Islamic communities.

The measures mark the first time the country's controversial "law on Islam" -- introduced in 2015 when current Chancellor Sebastian Kurz was foreign minister -- is being invoked.

The imams and mosques being targeted are suspected of breaching a rule that bans the foreign funding of Islamic communities.

It is said a lot of Saudi money builds these Mosques, even in places like a Muslim nation as Indonesia. And the radical teaching goes with it. And then, KSA and these other countries appear to be giving a lot to charity; but it's to spread the teaching.  Germany has these kinds of laws on the book.
