Pentagon has long feared clashes between US-backed forces and Turkish troops in Manbij (AFP)

Turkey and the United States on Monday endorsed a roadmap for the northern Syrian city of Manbij following a meeting of their foreign ministers in Washington, according to a joint statement.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said the plan will see the removal of US-backed Kurdish forces from the Syrian city.

The move, long sought by Ankara, comes at a time of strain in bilateral ties over wider Syria policy and Washington's decision in December to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

I wonder if such would have happened under the previous president, like Trump or not, another plus per handling foreign policy. Foreign policy? Forget those who have been decades in Washington and yes, maybe a businessman can sort it out better. IMHO.

It seems like one of my posts disappeared, I don't mean to be redundant in what I post. It does merit mention that one story is saying we are building a new base on the Iraqi border with Syria.  This is important because it also shows we intend to be there over the long-haul.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – US forces have reached the top of Mount Sinjar (Shingal) to establish a new a military base, a Kurdish Ezidi official said on Friday.

“Today, 15 military vehicles of US troops arrived on top of Mount Shingal and stationed themselves near Mira peak on the mountain,” Jalal Khalo, deputy mayor in Shingal, told Kurdistan 24.

The US forces are preparing to build a military base on the mountain, Khalo added.

It actually seems like an important story.

There's already an offshoot to the story, some Kurds perceived as hostile towards Turkey, YPG, are not being allowed to be a pat of this.
