Some GOP politicians and Republican-friendly business groups were quick to dissent when the Trump Administration took a preliminary step towards imposing a 25 percent tariff on imported autos.
“The U.S. Chamber strongly opposes the administration’s threat to impose tariffs on auto imports in the name of national security,” said Thomas J. Donohue, president and CEO of the Washington-based U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in a statement late last week.
“If this proposal is carried out, it would deal a staggering blow to the very industry it purports to protect and would threaten to ignite a global trade war,” Donohue said.....
